Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) required for Civil, Mechanical and Electrical engineering degrees
  • Or, Calculus-based STEM bachelor’s degree in engineering
  • Or Professional Engineer license
  • Plus at least 5 years’ relevant experience
  • Ability to interpret codes and standards within the discipline
  • Must possess a valid driver's license
  • Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship, at least 18 years of age.
Responsibilities
  • Assist Project Manager and engineering staff with planning, coordinating, and preparing of designs, procurement documents, specifications, bid evaluations, and award recommendations for equipment
  • Demonstrate managing the engineering design and construction support for projects including but not limited to: Define, plan, execute, monitor, control, and successfully complete the engineering design elements scope
  • Ensure compliance of engineering deliverables with defined schedule, costs, risks, and quality constraints
  • Maintain satisfaction of stakeholders by ensuring engineering solutions meet their differing needs and/or expectations
  • Manage communications related to engineering decisions and progress between project stakeholders and team members
  • Recommend and coordinate preparation and modifications to designs due to field conditions or adverse situations
  • Prepare and/or assist in the preparation of engineering cost estimates and material takeoffs and ascertain whether the proposed material usage will be adequate for its purpose
  • Devise integrated solutions to complex technical problems of broad scope
  • Ensure deliverables comply with laws, codes, orders, and MSTS policies and procedures
  • Interact with Engineering Managers and various departments within the company to ensure that engineering activities and project designs are compliant in all areas
  • Serve as an advisor to other project personnel, technical staff, and management on technical engineering issues
  • Mentor entry level engineering staff and other technical personnel in methods, processes, and best practices for project engineering
  • Participate in project development by helping define customer needs, developing proposals and planning projects that will produce effective outcomes
  • Work with customers to verify their needs are clearly defined and documented to meet their objectives and ensure engineering decisions are responsive to those needs
  • Apply knowledge and familiarity in multiple technical disciplines and ingenuity to implement effective technical solutions.
Desired Qualifications
  • Prior Department of Energy complex work experience is preferred, but not required
  • Past project engineering experience is preferred
  • Project management experience is preferred
  • PMP certification preferred
