Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Six years of related experience are required.
  • EPA 608 Universal Certification is required, or the ability to gain certification within 12 months.
  • Registered Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation air-conditioning technician status is required, or the ability to gain certification within 12 months.
  • The position requires export-control authorization prior to starting employment.
  • The position is security sensitive and requires a criminal history investigation and verification of credentials or other required information.
  • The position requires compliance with applicable state and federal laws and codes and Texas A&M University System and university policies, regulations, rules, and procedures.
  • The employee must perform all tasks and responsibilities safely in compliance with system and university safety requirements.
  • The employee must be able to work outdoors in various weather conditions, potential allergens, elevated noise levels, and heat.
  • The employee must be able to move light, medium, or heavy objects with assistance.
  • The employee may need to work beyond normal office hours and on weekends.
Responsibilities
  • Service, repair, and operate all air-conditioning, heating, and refrigeration systems.
  • Plan and schedule activities and services with the supervisor.
  • Identify and report needs for service-repair supplies and equipment.
  • Assist with implementing preventive-maintenance programs for space conditioning and environmental controls.
  • Respond to hot and cold call priorities as needed.
  • Complete work-order documentation in a timely and effective manner.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge and understanding of relevant state guidelines.
  • Participate in on-call duties during evenings, weekends, and special events.
  • Act as a service responder during emergencies, weather events, and catastrophic events.
  • Communicate work and service progress effectively with building occupants and stakeholders.
  • Communicate concerns and emergencies effectively to the Campus Operations Environmental Health and Safety team.
Desired Qualifications
  • Certified air-conditioning technician status under the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.
  • An air-conditioning contractor Class A license.
  • An air-conditioning contractor Class B license.
  • An Environmental Air Conditioning contractor endorsement.
  • A Commercial Refrigeration contractor endorsement.
  • A Process Cooling or Heating contractor endorsement.
  • Working knowledge of office software and instructional programs.
  • Knowledge of principles and methods for teaching and instructing individuals and groups.
