Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Optical Sciences or Optical Engineering with 5+ years experience or advanced degree
  • Demonstrated skills using optical modeling software tools such as Zemax
  • Strong understanding of single mode and multi mode fiber optics
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in laser optics and micro optics
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in tolerancing analysis, monte carlo analysis and stray light analysis
  • Sustained record of independent creative design activity and expertise with optical systems and optical subassemblies
  • Demonstrated knowledge and creative abilities for novel design and specification of optical systems and subsystems taken from the component level to the system level
  • Strong understanding of optical engineering fundamentals and principles
  • Demonstrated strong understanding of optical design, component specification, development, testing, and design for manufacturability
  • 10+ years experience with optical or photonics designs with industry R&D experience
  • Expertise in SolidWorks
  • Track record of ability to mentor and train others to accomplish technical goals
  • Experience with cryogenic systems and optical elements in cryogenic environments
  • Experience with high precision motion devices (piezos, flexure stages, etc)
Responsibilities
  • Work closely with optical and opto-mechanical engineers to develop ultra high precision beam shaping and steering optics
  • Define, design, and develop precision high NA and large FOV advanced and novel optical elements
  • Define, design and develop optical assemblies that take advantage of cutting edge optical components
  • Work with opto-mechanical engineers to iteratively develop fixtures and processes for precision alignment and assembly
  • Evaluate suitability of design solutions by performing detailed tolerance and stray light analysis
  • Work on projects from concept development and bring them to completion at the lab deployment stage, including initial debugging and sustaining efforts alongside the R&D division
