Requirements
  • Ph.D. in Communication Studies completed by July 1, 2026.
  • Strong commitment to interdisciplinary undergraduate education and an active research agenda.
  • Teaching experience encompassing public speaking, intercultural and/or international communication, communication theory, research methods, and courses within secondary areas of expertise that could inform the development of elective courses within Communication Studies.
  • Secondary areas of expertise are flexible, though candidates with scholarship in activism and social justice, and health communication are most desirable.
  • The candidate’s Ph.D. should be completed by July 1, 2026.
  • Commitment to inclusive teaching practices and ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Evidence of commitment to peer and student mentorship.
  • Willingness to participate in departmental and college service.
  • Ability to contribute to college governance, such as rotational work as department chair and/or Speaking Center director, Honors Society advisor, advising senior research including capstones and theses, and serving on institutional committees.
  • Tenure-track faculty teach four courses in the first year and five each year thereafter.
Responsibilities
  • Teach courses in the Communication Studies department, with primary responsibility; periodic opportunity to contribute a course to the Writing Program.
  • Maintain an active research program and mentor students, including senior research such as capstones and theses.
  • Participate in departmental and college service, including rotational roles as department chair and/or Speaking Center director, Honors Society advisor, and serving on institutional committees.
  • Provide leadership and mentoring in a small liberal arts context, including promoting inclusive curriculum and critical thinking.
  • Advise and support student research and capstone projects.
  • Engage in service on institutional committees as part of faculty duties.
Desired Qualifications
  • Scholarship in activism and social justice; health communication are most desirable.
  • Secondary areas of expertise flexibility beyond listed areas.
  • Experience with Writing Program teaching or contribution is advantageous.
