Requirements
  • An Associate’s degree or higher from an accredited institution in Automotive Technology is required.
  • ASE Master Technician Certification covering ASE A1-A8 is required.
  • At least one year of proven work experience in automotive maintenance and repair is required.
  • The instructor must meet the appropriate credentialing requirements of the Southern Association for Colleges and Schools.
  • The instructor must hold a valid Florida Driver’s License.
  • The instructor must be able to lift, carry, and safely handle supplies and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • The instructor must have manual dexterity and balance for demonstrating automotive maintenance and repair applications.
  • The instructor must be able to stand or sit for extended periods and walk, bend, lift, reach, and stoop.
  • The instructor must be able to maintain or troubleshoot automotive maintenance and repair lab equipment.
  • The instructor must be able to present verbal lectures and demonstrations.
  • The instructor must have sufficient close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth vision and be able to adjust focus.
  • The instructor must be able to travel to local vendors to obtain training supplies and make appropriate purchasing decisions or substitutions.
  • The instructor must be able to physically demonstrate automotive maintenance and repair methods and tools.
  • The instructor must comply with proper safety standards while employed by the College.
Responsibilities
  • Teach Automotive Technology classes, including clock-hour vocational classes and credit classes.
  • Complete student files, records, and grades accurately for the institution and appropriate certification agencies.
  • Teach day or night classes on or off campus and meet classes on time while properly prepared.
  • Maintain competency records for students and modify or improve assigned lesson plans.
  • Justify and report student grades and enter and maintain grades in Blackboard or another adopted Learning Management System.
  • Follow current course outlines, objectives, and program evaluation mechanisms.
  • Increase the use of educational technology in automotive instruction.
  • Monitor student attendance and retention and document them as required by the administration.
  • Grade assignments, return graded work, and assign final grades in a timely manner.
  • Advise students regarding school policies and satisfactory performance.
  • Comply with, monitor, and maintain automotive-industry safety procedures and best practices.
  • Maintain professional conduct and behavior when working with students and the College community.
  • Physically demonstrate automotive maintenance and repair methods and tools in support of student training.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Baccalaureate degree in Automotive Technology is preferred.
  • Three years of proven teaching experience in automotive technology is preferred.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and current Learning Management Systems, are preferred.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written, are preferred.
  • Organizational and interpersonal skills and the ability to multitask are preferred.
  • Willingness to make students active partners in the teaching and learning process is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and with students, faculty, staff, and coworkers and to remain self-motivated is preferred.
