Hedging Desk Generalist 1

Description

Summary:  This individual will be a member of the Purchasing Team and must be familiar with accounting principles and be very detail oriented. This role will be responsible for independently making effective decisions and managing processes related to the commodity price risk of copper through the use of proper hedging instruments and investment strategy. Position is part of a fast-paced team environment. The employee expectations include job flexibility and learning all aspects of the procurement process as this role will provide back up to the hedging lead and may flex into other projects and responsibilities. 

Hours: Monday–Friday  8:00 AM–4:30 PM

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Hedge metal purchasing and trades through interaction with broker process. 
• Works with computer models to improve, measure, report, analyze, and control risk associated with volatile commodity pricing.
• Execute supplier pricing based on purchase offer. 
• Review and monitor daily cast shop inventory levels for metal purchasing needs, including needs for oxygen free cake. 
• Regularly communicate with finance department regarding metal processes and to develop and improve data and financial reporting. 
• Provide timely market information and a high level of service to internal and external customers. 
• Administer non-conformance communication and corrective action process with suppliers. 
• Administer processes related to scrap delivery, truck receipts, sale of metal bi-products, transfer of metal, toll metal, and scrap sales. 
• Provide back-up for metal procurement process.
• Perform other purchasing department duties, including back-up to members of the department.

Education / Training:

Minimum Education:

• Associates degree or equivalent experience required

Key Knowledge Requirements:

• Familiar with trading operations, futures markets, and trading concepts such as metal spreads. 
• General knowledge of commodity markets 
• Understand accounting principles (debit/credit, balance sheets, etc.) 

Preferred:

• Bachelor’s Degree. 
• Knowledge of commodity rules and regulations 
• Understand the flow of transactions and terminology related to commodity trading and hedging operations. 
• Experience with Lean Manufacturing and Purchasing.
