ROLE of the POSITION *Updated*
The Merchant Services Manager manages, supports, and mitigates risk for payment card transactions at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. This role involves the following:
Managing, monitoring, and enhancing the universities’ merchant services operation and compliance efforts (PCI-DSS and related regulatory requirements)
Leading internal and external audits
Collaborating across internal and external teams to maintain a secure and compliant payment processing environment
Establishing and maintaining the institution’s PCI-DSS compliance strategies ensuring that it aligns with institutional goals and regulatory requirements
This position requires a comprehensive understanding of payment processing, security protocols, and compliance frameworks to protect the institution and its customers.
While a background of accounting and banking is helpful, this position is for merchant services, credit card administration and PCI-DSS.
Key job duties include:
PCI-DSS Compliance Strategy and Management
Serve as the primary point of contact for all merchant services and PCI-related matters including audits, assessments, and reports.
Establish and maintain policies, procedures, and guidelines.
Audit and Assessment Management
Work with departments to monitor and track remediation efforts to address audit findings and ensure compliance with PCI-DSS and related regulatory requirements.
Coordinating the completion of self-assessment questionnaires (SAQs) by all merchant account owners on an annual basis regarding their department’s method of payment processing and payment channels.
Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies.
Training and Cross-Functional Collaboration Efforts
Provide guidance on PCI compliance requirements for new systems, vendors, and processes and support third-party vendor assessments to ensure compliance with PCI-DSS standards.
Knowledge of fraud detection, chargeback management and dispute resolution processes.
Excellent organizational skills to manage compliance projects and track progress.
PCI DSS Program at UNLV
Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI DSS) is a set of security standards designed to ensure the protection of cardholder data, aiming to prevent fraud and data theft in the credit and debit card industry.
UNLV has over 70 merchant accounts across 20+ departments and is continuing to grow. Merchant accounts range from payment devices and online payment processing.
UNLV partners with a Qualified Security Assessor (QSA). This position requires extensive coordination and communication with our QSA, UNLV Office of Information Technology, UNLV departments and merchant account owners, and other internal and external stakeholders such as merchant service provider and third-party service providers (TPSP) to ensure PCI DSS compliance.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires the following qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, information technology, or a related field from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA)
3-5 years of related professional experience within merchant services and credit card administration and PCI-DSS
3-5 years of customer service experience and success in managing projects and teams
Credentials must be obtained prior to the start date.

Master’s Degree
Any experience with merchant services and credit card administration and PCI-DSS compliance in higher education.
Any experience in higher education.
Any experience in banking and accounting.

SALARY
Salary range is $82,408 - 105,246, or commensurate with the labor market.
