Requirements
  • At least 7 years of system administration experience in Linux environments, including shell scripting, creating cron jobs, analyzing log files, managing user accounts and groups, configuring iptables, and setting up mail services.
  • High skill level in VMware administration and management, including Jenkins, Jira, Confluence, Git, and DevOps tool administration.
  • Network equipment management experience, preferably with Cisco equipment.
  • Systems Administration/System Engineer certification in Linux+, CompTIA Linux+, Red Hat Certified System Administrator, or Red Hat Certified Engineer is preferred.
  • CompTIA Security+ (SY0-301) or another Department of Defense 8570.1 Workplace Improvement Plan IAT Level II compliant certification, or equivalent experience, is required.
  • Familiarity with web-based technologies, including reverse proxy servers, SSL certificate configuration, three-tier architecture, service-oriented architecture, enterprise service bus, HTTP, and browser differences.
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with technical and non-technical personnel.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Ability to move servers between the main data center, colocation facility, and laboratories.
  • Experience installing new hardware or migrating existing servers through rack-and-stack activities.
Responsibilities
  • Engineer systems administration solutions for project and operational needs.
  • Install or rebuild servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, and storage according to standards and project or operational requirements.
  • Manage virtualization platforms, including VMware and KVM.
  • Manage storage systems, including NetApp, Dell EMC, and Pure Storage.
  • Configure Atlassian Jira and Confluence servers, manage users, and provide user support.
  • Support infrastructure automation tools, including Ansible.
  • Manage Foreman deployments.
  • Manage the GLPI system inventory system.
  • Manage network equipment, including Cisco and Mellanox equipment.
  • Install and configure systems supporting infrastructure and research and development activities.
  • Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures.
  • Configure and maintain storage equipment and troubleshoot issues with vendors.
  • Configure and install electronic design automation tools and FlexLM licenses, and troubleshoot software tool issues.
  • Contribute to and maintain system standards.
  • Contribute to and maintain the security posture of systems.
  • Research and recommend innovative, automated approaches for systems administration tasks.
  • Install and maintain security patches on operational and development systems, including Red Hat Linux, CentOS, Ubuntu, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2012, VMware, and Apache web services.
  • Report security patch compliance.
  • Monitor systems daily by verifying hardware, server resources, system integrity and availability, key processes, logs, and scheduled jobs such as backups.
  • Perform regular security monitoring to identify possible intrusions.
  • Perform daily backup operations, verify successful backups, create recovery tapes or disks, and recycle and send backup media off site as necessary.
  • Perform regular file archival and purging.
  • Create, change, and delete user accounts as requested.
  • Provide Tier III and other support, investigate issues, and troubleshoot problems.
  • Repair and recover from hardware or software failures and coordinate with affected personnel.
  • Apply operating system patches and upgrades regularly and upgrade administrative tools and utilities.
  • Configure and add new services as necessary.
  • Manage existing and deploy new instances of Jira, Git, LDAP, Jenkins, and VMware environments.
  • Upgrade and configure system software supporting infrastructure or asset-management applications.
  • Maintain operational, configuration, and other procedures.
  • Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization.
  • Configure CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required.
  • Provide after-hours and weekend support or work alternative schedules when required.
Desired Qualifications
  • Linux+ certification, including CompTIA Linux+.
  • Red Hat Certified System Administrator certification.
  • Red Hat Certified Engineer certification.
  • Network equipment management experience with Cisco equipment.
