Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Two years of customer service or public interaction experience.
  • A valid Texas Driver’s License.
  • Must possess or obtain within six months of employment Community First Aid and Safety, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certification.
  • Knowledge of the operational characteristics, services, and activities of nature education, recreation, and recreation facilities.
  • Knowledge of recreation, nature education, and special event planning and coordination principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of customer service principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of federal and state safety laws and regulations.
  • Skill in interpreting customer needs and expectations and resolving customer service and public relations issues.
  • Skill in analyzing problems, providing alternatives, and identifying solutions in support of established goals.
  • Skill in responding to emergencies and determining corrective actions using available resources.
  • Skill in operating and maintaining a personal computer with point-of-sale and reservation/registration software and communications equipment.
  • Skill in managing cash-handling and reporting processes.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to safely pull, push, lift, and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work irregular hours, including weekdays, weekends, holidays, and evenings.
  • Ability to work immediately before, during, or after an emergency or disaster when required.
Responsibilities
  • Assist in delivering high-quality and consistent recreation programs and services, including facility reservations, youth and adult classes, and special events.
  • Plan, organize, facilitate, and instruct recreation programs approved by the Landa Recreation Center Supervisor in a safe manner and in accordance with community needs, city objectives, policies, procedures, and applicable laws.
  • Maintain attendance and class records, including program and participant surveys and accident or incident reports.
  • Monitor course enrollment and report supply inventory deficiencies to the supervisor.
  • Answer incoming calls and provide recreation program information in person and by telephone.
  • Greet guests and provide prompt, courteous customer service to the public.
  • Handle minor disciplinary issues or policy interpretation in accordance with Parks and Recreation Department policies and procedures when necessary.
  • Assist in promoting and coordinating city-wide special events, including event setup and teardown.
  • Assist with administrative activities, including computer records and cash management.
  • Operate the computer registration and reservation system.
  • Substitute for Parks and Recreation Department personnel as needed.
  • Maintain facility cleanliness and present a clean, comfortable, and safe environment.
  • Report potential and existing safety issues or concerns to supervisors to ensure patron safety.
  • Maintain availability for assigned program schedules and special event dates, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Perform other assigned or required duties.

  • Experience working with children in a recreation, educational, or other structured program setting.
  • Experience in recreation, nature education, or athletic instruction.
