Requirements
  • A Master's Degree in Hospital Administration, Business Administration, or a related field is required.
  • A minimum of five to seven years of management experience with increasing responsibility is required.
  • The employee must serve as a staff leader to the board and medical staff.
  • The employee must be able to read and write legibly in English.
  • The employee must have hearing and visual acuity within the normal range.
  • The employee must be able to perform heavy work, exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 20 pounds constantly.
  • The employee must be able to frequently walk, stand, stoop, kneel, reach, push, pull, lift, grasp, and feel.
  • The employee must be able to lift, move, and position patients of all weights with varying amounts of assistance on a regular and recurring basis.
Responsibilities
  • Direct, coordinate, and evaluate the activities and services of departments to assure customer satisfaction through delivery of high-quality patient care.
  • Provide oversight and administrative responsibility for clinical operations, anesthesia service, cancer service, hospitalist service, cardiopulmonary services, neurosciences, orthopedic surgery and pain services, inpatient rehabilitation, rehabilitation and wound care services, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, provider recruitment, and liaison activities with the employed physician practice group.
  • Work with medical staff, hospital administration, department heads, ancillary departments, and nursing staff to coordinate and manage patient care.
  • Assure open communication throughout the hospital and ensure staff understand and comply with hospital policies and procedures.
  • Manage ancillary and support departments to assure quality, safe, patient-care-focused services and patient satisfaction.
  • Participate in educational programs, mandatory training, performance improvement activities, departmental meetings, and required documentation.
  • Work with managers and Associates to develop and attain quarterly objectives and product teams.
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with patient rights, organizational ethics, hospital policies, safety standards, infection-control practices, and emergency-preparedness requirements.
  • Identify and detail work systems by interviewing customers, identifying priorities, understanding systems and outcomes, and monitoring results.
  • Establish and routinely monitor standards for satisfaction, quality, and cost, demonstrating measurable improvement in identified systems.
  • Assure direct reports develop and maintain competencies through mentoring and direct feedback, and ensure Associates understand and implement department work systems.
  • Produce and manage department budgets with appropriate line-item detail, manage significant variances, allocate resources, reduce costs, and identify cost savings.
  • Re-evaluate open positions, assess the necessity of refilling them, maintain schedules for coverage and identified outcomes, complete payroll and personnel responsibilities, and safeguard capital assets and equipment.
  • Establish priorities, maintain professional relationships with Associates and medical staff, address concerns, recognize staff contributions, anticipate problems, develop solutions, and follow through on corrective actions.
  • Plan and conduct meetings with agendas, decision-making objectives, reporting requirements, and follow-up objectives.
  • Create and implement change positively while working through issues with departmental teams and setting standards for team members.
  • Maintain a constructive environment among management teams and Associates, address conflicts, and take immediate action when serious discrepancies are discovered.
  • Delegate tasks with accountability and foster conditions that motivate Associates to work efficiently and establish goals and objectives.
  • Implement structured communication plans, listen actively to Associates and customers, promote positive behaviors, and maintain effective communication with medical staff.
  • Maintain working knowledge of appropriate computer programs and complete projects on time and within budget using work plans and issue tracking.
  • Ensure patient privacy and dignity, serve as a patient advocate, and liaise among patients, families, and healthcare teams.
  • Manage patient and nursing care across departments, including outpatient and physician office practices, while balancing patient care, customer needs, and financial constraints.
  • Ensure patient education is planned and implemented.
  • Assure appropriate length of stay, discharge, and coordination from ancillary staff.
  • Maintain established infection-control practices and collaborate with the Infection Control Practitioner and medical staff to develop and enforce infection-control guidelines.
