Requirements
  • A minimum of two years of relevant experience or experience working in a similar environment is required, including experience with laser cutters, 3D printers, sewing and embroidery machines, vinyl cutters, studio audio/visual equipment, or similar tools.
  • One year of supervisory experience is required in a team-based environment involving a variety of people, organizational and time management, analytical and problem-solving skills, information collection and analysis, verbal and written communication, safety orientation, and customer service.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Proficiency with verbal and written English is required.
  • The position requires regularly lifting at least 60 pounds and maneuvering equipment and materials, with bending, twisting, and reaching; the work area may involve exposure to chemicals and fumes.
Responsibilities
  • Supervise and develop Makerspace staff, including hiring, training, scheduling, and conducting employee performance evaluations.
  • Share responsibility for serving as the person in charge of the building through a rotating schedule, including occasional evening and weekend shifts.
  • Create and provide leadership for programming aligned with the library programming plan and best practices.
  • Ensure intellectual freedom principles through programs and services.
  • Determine developmentally appropriate delivery mechanisms for library, online, and community outreach programs.
  • Adhere to departmental and organizational standards, including brand guidelines.
  • Collaborate with the library programming team, City departments, community partners, and other internal stakeholders to maximize resources and deliver programs effectively.
  • Provide guidance and share knowledge with Makerspace Specialists.
  • Provide one-on-one instruction and training to staff and customers of all ages on Makerspace tools and technologies.
  • Maintain current knowledge of equipment, materials, and software.
  • Develop and execute equipment and materials maintenance schedules.
  • Manage inventory of supplies.
  • Support customer service, operational goals, Makerspace programming, and day-to-day group operations.
Desired Qualifications
  • Professional experience delivering programs, workshops, or one-on-one instruction on Makerspace equipment.
  • Background with electronics and circuits, audio and visual equipment, and computer-aided design.
  • A bachelor's degree in any STEAM discipline, Entrepreneurship, Library Science, or a relevant field.
  • Additional proficiency with Spanish and American Sign Language.
