Requirements
  • Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program and current licensure or eligibility for licensure as a Physician Assistant, or completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program and current licensure or eligibility for licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse.
  • Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner or Adult Nurse Practitioner qualification for adult patients from age 13 through death in stable chronic disease management or primary care.
  • Family Nurse Practitioner qualification for patients from birth through death in stable chronic disease management or primary care across the lifespan.
  • Current Basic Life Support certification.
  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification.
  • DHEC and Drug Enforcement Administration license applications must be started before the first day, if applicable.
  • Ability to perform the listed physical duties, including standing, walking, sitting, bending, kneeling, climbing stairs, reaching, using both hands and legs, performing repetitive motions, and lifting, pushing, pulling, or carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted.
  • Ability to qualify physically for respirator use and maintain 20/40 corrected vision.
  • Ability to work indoors in a latex-safe environment and occasionally in dusty, confined, or cramped spaces.
Responsibilities
  • Provide direct care to intensive care unit patients through comprehensive history-taking and physical examinations.
  • Evaluate and treat patients using history, physical examination, radiological, laboratory, and other diagnostic test results pursuant to the practice agreement or scope-of-practice guideline.
  • Perform therapeutic procedures within approved procedural privileges, skills, and proficiency, including arterial line placement, central line placement, pulmonary artery catheter placement, chest tube removal, temporary epicardial pacing wire removal, epidural catheter removal, external pacemaker application, direct current cardioversion, lumbar puncture, bronchoscopy, intubation, paracentesis, thoracentesis, and interosseous access.
  • Initiate referrals to other healthcare providers and consult with the attending or collaborating physician.
  • Document and bill for direct care provided.
  • Use current research and evidence-based decision-making in clinical practice.
  • Perform and participate in quality and performance improvement activities and clinical research.
  • Participate in and support organizational accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities.
  • Maintain professional practice through participation in professional organizations and continuing education.
  • Potentially precept advanced practice provider students and facilitate the learning of new team members.
  • Maintain licenses, certifications, continuing nursing education, and continuing medical education as required by policy and state law.
  • Coordinate medical and surgical specialty team involvement and develop comprehensive patient care plans.
  • Review plans of care with the clinical team and participate in directing care.
  • Ensure adherence to protocol requirements and regulatory guidelines.
  • Provide peri-procedural services and coordinate discharge planning to the next level of care when applicable.
Desired Qualifications
  • Two or more years of Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant experience is preferred.
  • Acute Care training and/or cardiology experience is preferred.
