What we’re looking for
We are looking for a Senior Counsel with experience in product counseling and advising on marketing and regulatory issues at a SaaS company to join our legal and corporate affairs team. Reporting to our Senior Director, Legal, you will support our Pre-Deployment Experience, Integrations & Solutions product team, which is helping to transform the survey creation process, optimize the respondent experience, improve panel acquisition and retention, and expand SurveyMonkey’s reach to enable viral loops and drive top of funnel traffic. You will be a trusted advisor to our product and engineering teams and a partner to security, data, product marketing, research, and product design teams. You will collaborate with our marketing teams on strategic partnerships, marketing campaigns, and content review and may also work with other senior business leaders to help guide legal and corporate strategic projects.
What you’ll be working on
- Work directly with senior product and engineering leaders and their stakeholders on product and feature development and releases by reviewing and advising on a wide range of issues related to data privacy & security, intellectual property, consumer protection, payments, and other legal and regulatory matters
- Conduct legal product reviews to ensure compliance with global laws and regulations and to influence future strategies and roadmaps.
- Draft clear disclosures and terms to allow our users and customers to make informed choices about their use of our products
- Support marketing teams by advising on marketing campaigns, developing content policies, reviewing marketing collateral, and negotiating strategic partnerships
- Develop legal training and help build scalable processes for legal review and launch of new products and features
- Work with our global privacy team to implement product and process changes across teams to address changes in privacy laws and regulations
We’d love to hear from people with
- 7+ years of relevant legal experience (including some law firm experience and 3+ years’ in-house experience) advising fast-paced B2B and B2C technology companies with a focus on product counseling and marketing
- JD from an accredited law school and membership in at least one US state bar
- General working knowledge of domestic and international data privacy and security, SaaS software licensing, intellectual property, and regulatory frameworks such as GDPR, CPRA and US state privacy laws, TCPA, CAN-SPAM, HIPAA, COPPA, California Age-Appropriate Design Code and similar state-level child online safety initiatives, PCI, FTC Section 5, state consumer protection laws, and EU Consumer Protection Directive
- Prior experience drafting and negotiating commercial contracts and working with APIs, integrations, and third-party marketplaces (i.e. app stores) preferred. Familiarity with commercial co-ventures and charitable fundraising platforms (including California AB 488) ideal
- Excellent legal and business judgment with the ability to break down and explain legal concepts and present practical, concise advice to senior business leaders with relevant contextual examples
- Ability to think strategically and develop strong working relationships with key internal clients
The base pay provided for this position ranges from $174,080 / year - $235,520 / year depending on the geographic market and assuming a full-time schedule. Actual base pay is based on a number of factors including market location, job-related knowledge, education or training, skills, and experience.
