Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Currently licensed as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the state of Florida.
  • Previous experience in the nursing field, especially with youth, is preferred.
  • Possess sound knowledge of medical procedures.
  • Ability to make proper judgments in times of crises.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare necessary reports.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive health information.
  • Knowledge of medical equipment and its use.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and government regulations; write reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals; effectively present information and respond to questions from groups.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts, such as percentages, proportions, and basic measurements, and apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to identify problems, collect and analyze data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, interpret a variety of instructions, and effectively manage situations involving multiple variables.
  • Valid Florida driver license and ability to maintain a safe driving record consistent with agency policy.
  • Successful completion of a Level 2 background screening through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse.
Responsibilities
  • Develop schedules and provide training and education for youth and staff on health and medical topics, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation, first aid, Occupational Safety and Health Administration requirements, nutrition, and other assigned health or medical topics.
  • Arrange and coordinate medical, dental, vision, and other youth services, including regularly scheduled and emergency services.
  • Complete youth assessments and chart audits on an initial and ongoing basis, including physical, dental, vision, hearing, and other appropriate areas.
  • Obtain initial medication consents and maintain current medication consents.
  • Consult with staff regarding youths’ medical needs and issues, including training and monitoring protocols for doctor-prescribed treatments and following up on first aid.
  • Set up and maintain clinic records and files for clinic and medical services, including administrative and youth files and records.
  • Maintain the clinic and/or first-aid area on campus, ensuring cleanliness and adequate, regularly inventoried supplies and equipment.
  • Assist the Business Manager or Program Bookkeeper with Medicaid and third-party insurance eligibility, claims, or billing matters.
  • Maintain public relations with the medical community and provide liaison services between the organization and doctors, dentists, orthodontists, emergency rooms, pharmacies, and other medical providers.
  • Monitor administration of prescription and over-the-counter medication by staff responsible for direct care of youth, including medication logs and follow-up on prescribed treatments; provide supervisors with input concerning staff who do not follow protocols or prescribed treatments.
