Requirements
  • At least 10 years of professional software engineering experience, including typically 3+ years as a Staff or equivalent senior individual contributor, or readiness to step into broader scope as a Senior individual contributor.
  • Experience building and shipping systems that other engineers depend on at scale, with technical ownership of a major service, platform area, or greenfield initiative end-to-end.
  • A proven track record of driving multi-team technical initiatives, setting architectural direction, unblocking cross-team dependencies, and influencing decisions beyond the immediate team.
  • Deep familiarity with modern web application stacks similar to Ruby on Rails, React, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Docker, PostgreSQL, and Amazon Web Services.
  • Practical experience with security and compliance work in a software-as-a-service environment, including System and Organization Controls 2, vulnerability management, authentication systems, and operating production systems that hold customer data.
  • Experience mentoring or leading engineers as a technical lead, a senior individual contributor running a working group, or in a formal management capacity.
  • Genuine interest in growing engineers and maturity to take on direct reports with coaching support.
  • Hands-on experience with modern artificial-intelligence-enabled development tools and agentic engineering approaches.
  • Experience building or meaningfully contributing to agentic workflows, including Model Context Protocol servers, skills, evaluation harnesses, multi-step automations, or artificial-intelligence-assisted development pipelines.
  • Ability to architect and ship artificial-intelligence features in production systems, including large-language-model orchestration, evaluation, observability, and cost management.
  • Strong understanding of scalability and system design, with experience building or guiding systems through significant growth in scale, complexity, or scope of ownership.
  • Ability to lead through influence, communicate complex technical ideas accessibly, write clear technical narratives, and operate effectively amid ambiguity and shifting priorities.
Responsibilities
  • Set technical direction across multiple platform domains and shape architecture decisions spanning service and team boundaries.
  • Produce technical documentation that enables teams to learn from and execute the technical direction.
  • Own complex, ambiguous, and consequential technical work end-to-end, including greenfield service design, large refactors, new platform capabilities, and unprecedented problems.
  • Anticipate and resolve systemic platform risks involving scalability ceilings, data-flow brittleness, security posture, and cross-service contracts.
  • Lead cross-team roadmap conversations, identify and resolve organization-level technical risks, and influence collective engineering capability.
  • Set and evolve the quality-versus-speed bar while coaching engineers on pragmatic trade-offs.
  • Act as a senior technical authority for security and compliance; partner with engineering leadership on System and Organization Controls 2, vulnerability management, threat modeling, and protective controls.
  • Participate in significant-scope code reviews and provide constructive feedback that improves quality and helps less experienced engineers grow.
  • Respond to incidents outside the normal scope during emergencies and translate operational insights into technical priorities and architectural opportunities.
  • Lead the design and adoption of agentic engineering workflows; build internal frameworks, skills, Model Context Protocol servers, evaluation harnesses, and reusable patterns.
  • Partner with engineering leadership on artificial-intelligence engineering strategy, evaluate emerging tools, define high-leverage use cases, and ensure responsible adoption aligned with internal guardrails.
  • Coach engineers across the organization on collaborating with artificial-intelligence systems, context engineering, tool selection, output evaluation, and appropriate trust boundaries.
  • Directly manage two mid-level engineers, including regular one-on-ones, growth plans, performance reviews, compensation recommendations, and timely feedback.
  • Develop direct reports through pairing, design feedback, code review, and exposure to technical decisions.
  • Develop engineers beyond direct reports through pairing, code review, design feedback, and technical critique.
  • Build relationships with product managers, designers, and cross-functional partners, representing technical perspectives in scope, sequencing, and trade-off discussions.

Tuffgrowth partners with Pathstream Inc.

When Tuffgrowth first partnered with Pathstream, a majority of their ad spend was dedicated to Facebook ads, but the cost per lead, cost per application and cost per enrollment were extremely high and they knew they needed to drive these costs down in order to keep investing a large majority of their paid spend into Facebook.
