Requirements
  • At least 3 years of precision computer numerical control programming, setup, and multi-axis machining experience in a fast-paced prototype or research and development environment.
  • Experience with computer numerical control machines and computer-aided manufacturing toolpaths for 3-axis to 5-axis equipment; Fusion 360 proficiency is preferred.
  • Understanding of tooling, workholding, tolerances, machining strategy, feeds, speeds, and holding dimensions below 0.001 inch (0.025 mm).
  • Ability to produce quality parts consistently across engineering metals, polymers, and ceramics.
  • Ability to work closely with engineering teams, identify drawing ambiguities or geometric risks, and communicate them clearly.
  • Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 pounds.
Responsibilities
  • Machine parts and fixtures for prototype and production hardware.
  • Work from computer-aided design models, drawings, engineering input, engineering prints, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing callouts to produce accurate components.
  • Program, set up, and operate computer numerical control machines, including 3-axis mills and lathes, across varied materials.
  • Support mechanical-design iteration by providing design-for-manufacturability feedback on tolerances, tooling, and manufacturability.
  • Develop computer-aided manufacturing programs using Fusion 360 or other industry-standard software, defining tooling strategies, cutting parameters, and toolpaths.
  • Design and fabricate custom workholding, including soft jaws and vacuum fixtures, for one-off and low-volume prototype parts.
  • Inspect and verify parts using calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and indicators, and adjust processes to prevent defects or tolerance drift.
  • Provide secondary support for fused deposition modeling, resin, and selective laser sintering 3D-printing workflows, including machine minding, material preparation, build clearing, and post-processing.
  • Operate as a backup for basic cable fabrication and harness assembly, interpreting schematics, pinouts, and wiring diagrams for electrical builds.
  • Document machining and additive setups, process instructions, and inspection logs to improve shop throughput, quality, and repeatability.
  • Coordinate with engineers and assembly teams to prioritize urgent work and balance shop logistics, capacity, and material needs.
  • Maintain safety, cleanliness, machine care, preventative maintenance, and environmental health and safety lab compliance.
Desired Qualifications
  • Exposure to 3D printing, laser cutting, or post-processing operations.
  • Experience programming or operating coordinate measuring machines or using advanced metrology platforms.
  • Experience with tungsten inert gas welding, advanced sheet metal fabrication, or other structural joining processes.
  • Experience documenting inspection logs, nonconformances, and setup sheets in a manufacturing execution system, product lifecycle management system, or enterprise resource planning system.
