Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree or above with a major in real estate finance, commercial real estate projects, business, finance, accounting, or economics is required; a master's degree is preferred.
  • One to five years of experience with institutional commercial real estate finance in banking or financial services is required.
  • Knowledge of cash-flow commercial real estate fundamentals and major commercial real estate gateway submarkets, specifically New York City, is required.
  • Knowledge of general credit analysis, spreadsheet modeling, real estate market analysis, property cash-flow and rent-roll analysis, cash-flow projections, sensitivity analysis, and review of third-party reports, including appraisals and engineering and environmental reports, is required.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Mandarin is required.
Responsibilities
  • Support the Commercial Real Estate Team with new loans and modifications by completing due diligence on loan proposals, preparing green-light memoranda, underwriting new credit proposals, responding to internal credit inquiries, preparing term sheets, managing third-party vendors and loan documentation, and coordinating the closing process.
  • Manage post-lending processes by preparing and updating ticklers, identifying post-lending risks, communicating with stakeholders, assisting with resolution processes, and managing compliance protocols.
  • Assist with special projects and collaborate with internal stakeholders to achieve unit goals.
  • Follow Know Your Customer, Bank Secrecy Act, Anti-Money Laundering, and other compliance requirements for new and legacy loans.
  • Assist team members with due diligence and analysis in underwriting prospective and new commercial real estate loan opportunities consistent with the bank's underwriting criteria.
  • Complete pipeline, portfolio, special-group, and management reports.
  • Prepare, schedule, and conduct on-site visits to prospects, borrowers, properties, and related parties, and complete required post-activity reports.
  • Coordinate functions and relevant parties involved in the origination, analysis, due diligence, written and verbal presentations to management and credit committees, credit approval, closing, post-lending, and payoff of commercial real estate loans.
  • Conduct research to understand customer needs and identify new business opportunities.
  • Assist colleagues in building new relationships and managing existing relationships with peer banks to identify transaction opportunities and expand the syndication platform.
  • Participate in special projects and attend events as assigned.
  • Collect, review, and analyze borrower and guarantor financial statements; prepare pro-forma base-case and downside-case property-level financial projections; review third-party consultant reports; and prepare written reports.
  • Monitor and analyze relevant commercial real estate markets, assigned geographic-market economic and demographic trends, and key developments.
  • Perform financial analyses to determine loan risk ratings and propose quarterly loan-loss reserves based on those ratings.
  • Monitor the existing loan portfolio for proper risk ratings and early identification of potential issues.
  • Analyze and monitor loan portfolios and prepare annual written financial reviews for performing loans, quarterly written reviews for problem loans, and monthly written reviews for past-due loans.
  • Review offering memoranda for new loan opportunities, prepare green-light memoranda, review and negotiate term sheets, prepare and review legal documentation, review third-party reports, and assist with loan closings.
  • Conduct compliance and due-diligence checks, including Know Your Customer and Anti-Money Laundering checks, in accordance with bank policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a close working relationship with the Risk Management Department and Home Office to respond to and resolve credit issues.
  • Attend required training, complete assigned work tasks, and comply with bank policies, procedures, and requirements.
