Requirements
  • Must possess a Commercial Driver's License with passenger endorsements and other endorsements allowing operation of buses exceeding 26,000 pounds gross vehicle weight and liquid transporters with a capacity of 1,000 gallons or more.
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • At least two years of experience driving with a Commercial Driver's License is preferred.
  • Familiarity with the military is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts.
  • Ability to exercise strong interpersonal skills and good judgment while working alone or as part of a team.
  • Must be able to obtain a Public Trust Level (NACI) security clearance.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Must frequently lift items weighing up to 30 pounds independently and occasionally lift up to 65 pounds with assistance.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, and sit for prolonged periods.
  • Must use arms, hands, and fingers for pulling and positioning materials, sewing, and using tools such as shears.
  • Must work outside and occasionally be exposed to all weather conditions, various traffic conditions, and the possibility of serious accidents while loading, unloading, and driving vehicles.
Responsibilities
  • Lead a convoy of buses to and from prospective training areas, communicate by radio with base command regarding instructions and route deviations, give safety briefings, communicate with senior drill sergeants during bus loading, verify destinations on the transportation sheet, and mediate problems to ensure trainees are transported.
  • Drive vehicles ranging from sedans to 44-passenger buses on scheduled short trips and transport personnel.
  • Observe schedules, follow prescribed routes, and comply with established speed limits.
  • Control passenger and equipment loading and unloading to ensure capacity limits are observed and only authorized persons are transported.
  • Complete vehicle utilization records, including miles operated, hours operated, petroleum, oil, and lubricants added, and passenger counts.
  • Complete vehicle accident reports when necessary.
  • Report passenger misbehavior on buses and perform driver maintenance according to established regulations.
  • Drive water trucks and vans under four-ton capacity, including four-wheel-drive vehicles, to transport drinking water, articles, and materials throughout the post.
  • Determine practical and safe routes across local areas and highways while observing speed limits.
  • Supervise cargo loading and unloading to ensure capacity regulations are followed and only authorized cargo is transported.
  • Complete vehicle utilization and service records and driver accident reports when necessary.
  • Perform maintenance and upkeep of the physical work building and other tasks assigned by the supervisor.
  • Drive other vehicles for which qualified and licensed when required by workload and keep vehicles clean inside and outside.
