Desired Qualifications

  • Prior work at a developer tools or documentation company.

GitBook is a documentation platform that helps teams create and manage both internal and external documentation. It started as an open-source tool for developers and now offers a suite of collaboration features and a docs-as-code workflow to streamline technical content. The product works by providing a centralized environment where teams author, organize, and publish docs, with AI-powered search and editing to quickly find information and maintain high-quality content, and a Git-based workflow that lets documentation live alongside code. What sets GitBook apart is its focus on developer-friendly collaboration, integration with existing Git workflows, and a broad use case range from product docs to internal knowledge bases and API docs, all offered on a subscription model with plans for individuals, small teams, and enterprises. The companyโ€™s goal is to simplify and scale technical documentation and knowledge management for teams of all sizes.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • GitBook's March 2026 report showed 76% of docs experts use AI regularly.
  • June 2026 open-source docs plan and sponsorship ads expand top-of-funnel adoption.
  • 130k monthly readers and faster AI answers strengthen product-led distribution and retention.

What critics are saying

  • Mintlify and ReadMe directly attack GitBook's core developer-docs niche in 2026.
  • Document360 and Notion undercut GitBook on enterprise governance and cheaper collaboration.
  • If AI search commoditizes, GitBook becomes a workflow layer with weak pricing power.

What makes GitBook unique

  • GitBook's June 2026 connected knowledge system links docs, Slack, GitHub, and Linear.
  • Git Sync keeps docs in developer workflows while nontechnical writers edit visually.
  • AI-first docs product now targets agents with MCP, llms.txt, and AI insights.
