Requirements
  • A Master's degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Robotics, or a related field.
  • At least 8 years of deep experience in embedded hardware, power electronics, and high-voltage direct-current/alternating-current systems.
  • Expert-level proficiency in printed circuit board design software, with Altium Designer preferred.
  • Extensive experience navigating regulatory approval processes, including Underwriters Laboratories, Conformité Européenne, and Federal Communications Commission requirements, for heavy electronics.
  • Deep knowledge of electromagnetic interference and electromagnetic compatibility mitigation techniques in mixed-signal and high-power boards.
  • Strong understanding of industrial communication buses, including Controller Area Network, Ethernet, Serial Peripheral Interface, and Inter-Integrated Circuit, at the hardware level.
Responsibilities
  • Define the global electrical and power topology for the robot, balancing high-power demands with strict noise requirements for sensitive compute and perception sensors.
  • Architect custom Battery Management Systems, high-power inverters, and fast-charging systems tailored for rugged construction environments.
  • Lead the schematic design and review process for all custom printed circuit boards using Altium or Eagle, focusing on high-current routing, thermal management, and electromagnetic interference/electromagnetic compatibility mitigation.
  • Define the global Hardware-in-the-Loop testing strategy and architect simulation environments that validate functional safety and system reliability before physical deployment.
  • Design complex, high-reliability wire harness architectures.
  • Architect the global hardware-based safety loop, integrating error signals such as over-current faults, thermal limiters, and hardware watchdogs from distributed compute and motor drives into a centralized, fail-safe emergency-stop circuit.
  • Ensure the entire hardware safety topology complies with industrial standards such as ISO 13849 and IEC 61508 independently of software state.
  • Drive the product through rigorous regulatory approval processes including Underwriters Laboratories, Conformité Européenne, and Federal Communications Commission approvals, acting as the primary technical authority for compliance testing.
  • Manage relationships with contract manufacturers and define the end-of-line testing strategy for printed circuit boards and assembled power systems.
  • Mentor and lead a team of hardware engineers, establishing guidelines for design reviews, component selection, and testing protocols.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in the electric vehicle, aerospace, or heavy machinery industries.
  • Experience designing systems to functional safety standards.

Origin builds a general-purpose construction robot that automates interior finishing trades such as drywall finishing and painting on real job sites. The AI-powered system can operate power tools and work alongside human crews across multiple trades. It is already deployed on live job sites in New York City with major contractor partners. Its goal is to enable scalable, high-quality, and cost-efficient construction by augmenting or replacing manual interior finishing work with intelligent robotics.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • March 2026 caps reached multiple global beverage brands, showing real customer validation.
  • February 2026 Matrix partnership extends 2026 qualification trials and product runs.
  • September 2025 Starlinger equipment financing supports PET sheet production through 2029 repayment.

What critics are saying

  • Origin approved dissolution on August 12, 2026, making employer durability existentially weak.
  • Management cut 59% of staff on May 1, 2026, and John Bissell stepped down.
  • Cash lasts only into Q3 2026 without financing, forcing asset sales or shutdown.

What makes Origin unique

  • Origin still owns PET cap technology with customer-requested designs and qualification data.
  • Matrix Bottling partnership broadens commercialization through U.S. bottling and capping services.
  • HP Embalagens distribution gives Origin access to Nestlé, Ferrero Rocher, and J&J networks.
