Copart's US salvage auction revenue flatlines despite stock flying near all-time high

Copart, a major operator of salvage vehicle auctions in the US, reported mixed results for its fiscal third quarter ended 30 April 2026. Revenue rose 2.1% to $1.237 billion, whilst net income fell 1% to $402.4 million. The company's US operations, which handle wrecked and repossessed vehicles, saw revenue essentially flat at $1.003 billion. Over nine months, US revenue declined roughly 1.8%. International operations drove growth, with quarterly revenue jumping 14.1% to $234.2 million. International operating income climbed nearly 25% to $73.8 million as Copart expands across the UK, Germany, Brazil, and other markets. The company serves approximately 1 million registered buyers across more than 185 countries. Despite strong share price performance, Copart's core US salvage business has plateaued whilst international expansion provides the primary growth engine.

Copart (NASDAQ:CPRT) Stock Under Pressure: Analyst Downgrade, Insider Selling, and fraud investigation.

Copart (NASDAQ:CPRT) Stock Under Pressure: Analyst Downgrade, Insider Selling, and fraud investigation. Jul 21, 2026 Market News FMPCopart (NASDAQ:CPRT) Stock Under Pressure: Analyst Downgrade, Insider Selling, a... * Analyst downgrade: Barclays lowered its price target for Copart to $26.00. * Corporate concerns: Copart is under investigation for potential securities fraud following its CEO's resignation. * Market sentiment: The stock has underperformed its sector, hitting a new 52-week low, exacerbated by significant insider selling. Copart is a global online vehicle auction company, a key player in the online vehicle auction market. It provides a robust platform for sellers, such as insurance companies, to efficiently sell damaged or used vehicles to a diverse range of buyers. On July 21, 2026, a Barclays analyst lowered their price target for Copart (NASDAQ:CPRT) to $26.00, while the CPRT stock was trading at $27.04 per share. This analyst action highlights growing concerns in the investment community. This analyst adjustment follows several concerning developments impacting Copart's stock performance. As highlighted by Pomerantz LLP, the law firm is investigating Copart for potential securities fraud, a significant concern for investors. This investigation was prompted by the June 29, 2026, announcement that CEO Jeff Liaw would be stepping down. The news caused the stock price to fall $2.45, or 8.02%, to close at $28.10 per share that day, reflecting immediate market reaction. Adding to investor concerns is recent insider activity. Company Director Daniel J. Englander sold 80,000 shares for $2,200,000.00 on July 13, 2026. Insider selling, when executives or directors sell their own company's stock, can sometimes suggest a lack of confidence in the company's near-term prospects from those who know it best, often signaling potential future stock market trends. The CPRT stock's market performance reflects this negative sentiment. Copart has fallen 6.42% over the past month, significantly underperforming its sector. The stock recently hit a new 52-week low of $26.85. This contrasts sharply with a 3.48% gain in the Business Services sector and a 0.32% gain in the S&P 500 over the same period, underscoring Copart's recent underperformance in the broader stock market. Looking ahead, investors are closely watching for Copart's next earnings report. As highlighted by Zacks Consensus Estimates, analysts expect an Earnings Per Share (EPS) of $0.39, representing a 4.88% decrease from last year. EPS, a critical metric for profitability analysis, is a company's profit divided by its number of shares, and a decrease can signal lower profitability for investors, potentially influencing CPRT's future stock valuation and investment outlook. Copart stock seen 17% undervalued with $40 intrinsic value on salvage auction dominance

Copart, Inc. operates as the dominant player in the US salvage vehicle auction market, connecting insurance companies with global vehicle buyers through an online marketplace. The company benefits from three key competitive advantages: an irreplaceable land network built over 40 years, a large buyer ecosystem that drives auction prices, and high switching costs from operational integration with insurers. Trading at $28.10 with a forward P/E of 16.67, analysts estimate intrinsic value around $40 per share, implying 17% upside. On normalised owner earnings of approximately $1.81 billion, shares trade at roughly 17.6 times owner earnings. In an optimistic scenario, intrinsic value could reach $56 per share if international expansion accelerates. Long-term tailwinds include increasing vehicle total-loss rates, land appreciation and international expansion opportunities, positioning Copart as a high-quality compounder despite risks from competition and electric vehicle dynamics.

Copart names Jay Adair CEO as Jeff Liaw transitions to advisory role.

Copart names Jay Adair CEO as Jeff Liaw transitions to advisory role. June 29, 2026 Copart Inc. (NASDAQ: CPRT) announced that Chief Executive Officer Jeff Liaw will step down from his role and the company's board of directors effective July 31, 2026, with Executive Chairman Jay Adair returning as chief executive officer to lead the global online vehicle auction company. Liaw will remain with Copart as special advisor to Adair to support the leadership transition. Adair, who previously served as the company's CEO before becoming executive chairman, will officially resume the chief executive role on July 31. The transition returns leadership to one of Copart's longtime executives as the company continues expanding its global vehicle remarketing platform. During Liaw's tenure in senior leadership, Copart strengthened its position in online salvage and used vehicle auctions while increasing transaction volumes and marketplace activity. Adair credited Liaw with helping guide the company through a decade of growth, first as chief financial officer, then as president and most recently as Copart's third chief executive officer. He said Liaw's leadership contributed to record transaction values, higher average selling prices and stronger auction liquidity, reinforcing Copart's position as a trusted marketplace for insurance companies and commercial vehicle consignors worldwide. Liaw said serving as Copart's chief executive had been the defining opportunity of his career. He thanked the company's customers and employees for their support and said he looks forward to assisting Adair and the leadership team during the transition while continuing to contribute to the company's future success in his advisory role. Founded in 1982, Copart operates one of the world's largest online vehicle auction marketplaces, connecting insurance companies, financial institutions, dealers, rental car companies, fleet operators and other consignors with buyers through its digital auction platform. The company's technology-enabled marketplace serves approximately one million members across more than 185 countries. Copart operates more than 250 locations in 11 countries and sold more than 4 million vehicles over the past year. Its online auction platform supports vehicle remarketing across the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Brazil, the Republic of Ireland, Germany, Finland, Spain and markets in the Middle East, including the United Arab Emirates, Oman and Bahrain.

Copart shares sink as rising costs, missed earnings signal trouble ahead

Copart, an online vehicle auction and remarketing services provider, faces mounting challenges as rising operating costs and technology investments pressure margins. The company, which serves insurance companies, dealers and banks through its virtual bidding platform, is grappling with higher expenses related to employee investments and infrastructure expansion. The Zacks Rank #5 (Strong Sell) stock belongs to the Auction and Valuation Services industry group, which ranks in the bottom 16% of approximately 250 industries. Copart missed fiscal second-quarter estimates in February, posting earnings of 36 cents per share and missing consensus by 10%. Sales fell nearly 4% year-over-year, prompting forward guidance cuts. Looking ahead, improvements in vehicle safety systems and autonomous driving technology could reduce accident frequency, potentially limiting salvage supply and constraining inventory growth.
