Principal Fire Protection Engineer

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a Principal Fire Protection Engineer to join our team supporting Fluor on their Savannah River Plutonium Processing Facility (SRPPF) project! This position is full-time and will be based out of Aiken, SC.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical direction to other engineers.

• Conduct construction document reviews related to Fire Protection (FP) as required.

• Generate Fire Hazard Analysis (FHA) documents.

• Develop modifications to existing FHA documents, facility FP assessments, exemption and equivalency requests.

• Create and revise detailed FP designs.

• Calculate various FP systems including pre-action, wet pipe and dry pipe systems.

• Review of FP packages and contractor submittals

• Familiarity with computer aided drafting applications is required

Requirements

• Education & Years of Experience – Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Protection Engineering or similar accredited engineering B.S., minimum 15 years of practical related engineering practice (nuclear preferred), 8 years of which will have been in charge of diverse fire protection engineering design/construction work. National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) Level III (Water Based Layout) Certification acceptable in lieu of B.S. in Engineering

• Citizenship – To be considered, you must be a United States (U.S.) citizen due to the federal nature of the work

• Clearance – To be considered, you must be able to obtain and maintain a government issued clearance, if needed

• Must have a working knowledge of Federal (including Department of Energy Orders), State, and Local codes and standards applicable to fire protection design

• Must have prior experience generating:

  • Fire Hazard Analysis (FHA) documents,

  • modifications to existing FHA documents,

  • facility FP assessments,

  • exemption and equivalency requests, and

  • detailed FP designs, and calculation of various FP systems.

Desired Skills

• Professional Engineer (P.E.) License
