Requirements
  • An educational level equivalent to a high school diploma or General Educational Development credential.
  • Two years of full-time work experience in a business environment, including clerical duties, providing customer service, and utilizing basic computer skills.
  • Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures, including filing and basic record-keeping systems; operation of standard office equipment and personal computers; business English, including grammar, punctuation, spelling, and general correspondence; and basic arithmetic.
  • Ability to understand, explain, and apply specific statutes, codes, laws, regulations, and procedures; prepare and process legal documents; maintain complex legal records and files; perform the stated physical activities; locate, identify, and correct technical inaccuracies; enter and retrieve data from the Court's automated systems; follow oral and written instructions; communicate orally and in writing; organize work and meet Court deadlines; work under difficult and stressful situations; adapt to changes within the court system; establish rapport with judges, staff, attorneys, supervisors, managers, and the public; and assist people from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Successful completion of a fingerprint check and provision of appropriately identifying documents certifying eligibility to work in the United States.
Responsibilities
  • Receive and examine legal documents for sufficiency, conformity, jurisdiction, completeness, timeliness, and supporting documentation; return unacceptable documents with discrepancies and rejection reasons; and affix seals and stamps.
  • Provide customer service and assist the public, court staff, and other agencies at the counter, through the Court's website, and by telephone; provide procedural case-status information; accept bail money and routine filings; explain legal filing processes, court forms, rules, fees, and fines; and help individuals locate materials and information.
  • Verify, enter, retrieve, correct, and update information in manual and automated record-keeping systems; post citation payments; and make docket entries on current and old cases.
  • Prepare, assign identification codes to, file, retrieve, search, copy, mail, scan, and image legal document files and case materials; prepare and use indexes; update and purge files; and deliver files and documents to the appropriate party.
  • Compute, receive, receipt, and record fines and fees; review, post, adjust, and balance daily registers and financial records; compile numerical counts and routine statistical data for reports; and balance daily cash with receipts.
  • Prepare court calendars and coordinate arrangements with departments and attorneys; prepare notices of hearings, court appearances, and petitions; coordinate documents for court assignments; assemble docket sheets; and enter actions from minute sheets into records.
  • Type and prepare abstracts, judgments, clerk's transcripts, declarations, notices, letters, and other legal documents in finished form, and compose letters responding to requests for general information.
