Modus Audit blends AI-powered audit technology with strategic CPA firm partnerships. It develops an AI-native audit platform that acts as an operating system for a firm’s software stack, using AI agents to automate manual tasks, normalize financial data, and support risk assessment. Partners and managers can train AI assistants on their review standards to automatically flag risks and generate comments, enabling auditors to focus on judgment work. In addition, Modus acquires and collaborates with established audit-first accounting firms through an alternative practice structure, preserving culture and client relationships while deploying its technology to boost audit quality, efficiency, and scale. The company’s dual model combines product leadership with growth through consolidation in the public accounting industry. Its goal is to modernize public accounting by delivering higher-quality, faster audits and expanding the reach of tech-enabled services across partner firms.

Modus raises $85 million led by Lightspeed to build ai-native accounting firm.

Modus raises $85 million led by Lightspeed to build ai-native accounting firm. Funding Follows Modus's Investment in a Top 200 Accounting Platform NEW YORK-(BUSINESS WIRE)-Modus, an AI-native audit technology platform & holding company today announced that it has raised $85 million in Seed & Series A funding, led by Lightspeed Venture Partners, with participation from Comma Capital and Garry Tan. The capital will be used to accelerate Modus's technology development and to support its strategy of investing in and partnering with growing audit-first accounting firms. Modus is empowering the AI-native accounting firm, combining proprietary artificial intelligence, deep regulatory expertise, and a disciplined investment strategy. The company partners with established accounting firms to preserve their heritage, people, and client relationships while equipping them with modern technology designed to improve audit quality, efficiency, and scalability. "Audits serve as the cornerstone for trust in our capital markets, yet the underlying tools and workflows have not meaningfully changed in decades," said Arush Jain, Co-Founder and CEO of Modus. "This funding allows us to invest aggressively in AI-enabled audit tooling while partnering with exceptional firms that want to lead the profession forward, without sacrificing quality or culture." Modus's technology is purpose-built to help accounting firms perform complex audits, enabling auditors to automate manual procedures, enhance risk assessment, and focus more time on judgment-driven work. By combining technology with strategic investments, Modus aims to create a scaled platform capable of serving accounting firms that deliver audits for sophisticated clients while maintaining the trust and rigor the profession demands. Since its launch in June, Modus has already demonstrated meaningful traction, including an investment in a top 200 accounting platform (per Inside Public Accounting) with over $30 million in revenue. Through the deployment of Modus's platform, the firm is expected to more than double their organic growth rate in 2026 with a meaningful pipeline of additional partner firms. "Public accounting has been historically underserved by technology. Modus intends to drive the industry forward with thoughtful product philosophy and a partnership-first approach that earns the trust of each firm they invest in," said Isaac Kim and Amish Desai, Partners at Lightspeed Venture Partners. "The Modus team has driven highly effective automation in key audit workflows and meaningfully increased efficiencies for firms performing audits, and we are excited to partner with them in building the world's first AI native audit technology for accounting firms," added Justin Overdorff, Partner at Lightspeed Venture Partners. Founded by Arush Jain, Pranav Pillai, and Vinay Kasat, Modus combines deep technology and financial expertise, with team members from Palantir, Citadel, Ramp, Thoma Bravo, Bridgewater and AWS. The company is advised by Jim Burton, former Chief Auditor at Grant Thornton, Brian Blaha, former Chief Growth Officer of Wipfli, and the former CEO of a top 10 accounting firm. The funding will support continued investment in Modus's AI platform, expansion of its audit-focused product capabilities, and additional investments in accounting firms aligned with Modus's long-term vision. About Modus Founded in 2025, Modus is an AI-driven audit technology platform that partners with firms focused on transforming how audits are performed. Modus's ambition is to help accounting firms deliver the highest quality audit, in a fraction of the time. Modus raises $85M to acquire accounting firms and build AI audit agents

Modus, which acquires majority stakes in accounting advisory entities, has raised $85 million in combined seed and Series A funding, CEO Arush Jain tells Axios. Lightspeed led both rounds, with $5 million in seed funding and $80 million in Series A. Comma Capital and Garry Tan also participated. The company builds AI agents for audit workflows, including data extraction, financial standardisation and workpaper generation. Each output links back to source documents for verification. Modus differentiates itself from traditional private equity buyers by taking majority stakes through alternative practice structures, acquiring advisory entities rather than CPA firms directly. Launched in June, Modus has completed its first investment in an Ohio-based accounting firm with approximately 175 employees. The company expects to make at least five acquisitions this year.
