MediaLab is looking for a Product Designer to lead the end-to-end design of Kik’s mobile apps.
We are looking for an experienced and talented UI/UX Designer to help us continue to iterate on this legacy brand and build features that encourage engagement. In this role, you will be responsible for creating and owning the design and UX of all new features, and working closely with the product & engineering teams while they implement them. This is an opportunity to manage the design process from start to finish while working closely with a talented and experienced Product Owner to translate a vision into a product.
Note: Location is flexible & we are happy to support remote, US based employees
The best candidates will be comfortable moving quickly in a startup environment, and will have some experience working on applications that cater to large audiences.
What You’ll Do
- Lead the design of Kik’s entire platform
- Create polished, visually appealing, accessible, consistent and distinct UI/UX for mobile and Web
- Create consistent and adaptable designs for multiple platforms
- Apply usability design principles, UCD and color theory to your designs
- Design around platform limitations, optimize the performance of your designs and implement interfaces
- Collect feedback from users to be used in the design process
- Create wireframes, visual design guides and user flows
- Present designs and ideas to stakeholders
- Partner with the Product Owner and Data Scientist to create UI/UX AB tests to validate designs
- Prototype interactive mobile and/or web experiences
What We’re Searching For
- 3+ years product design experience
- Strong portfolio demonstrating relevant digital experience
- Previous experience with display advertising
- Strong understanding of interactivity on the web and native mobile apps and the fundamentals of UX, information architecture, hierarchy, and layout
- Careful attention to detail
- An eagerness to collaborate across disciplines with team members at all levels
- The ability to both work autonomously and as part of a team
- Deep knowledge and interest in music, digital media, social media and technology
- Experience working with Figma, Sketch, Illustrator, or similar
- Experience working in-house/tech start-up is a plus
- Experience working with prototyping software like Origami Studio is a plus
