Requirements
  • Able to perform routine maintenance on equipment and determine when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
  • Able to determine causes of operating errors and decide how to complete and solve the issue.
  • Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and maintain landscaping accurately and quickly while working with colleagues.
  • Able to recognize and observe all safety and security procedures, report potentially unsafe conditions, and use equipment and materials properly.
  • Ability to analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
  • Ability to utilize computer technology to access data and communicate with others.
  • Ability to maintain written equipment maintenance records.
  • Strong knowledge and experience providing effective customer service.
  • Ability to maintain the security and integrity of Dallas College's critical infrastructure.
  • Two years of related experience.
  • Ability to work extended hours beyond the regular 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. workday, including nights and weekends.
  • Current and valid Texas driver's license required for offsite travel.
  • Subject to a criminal background check; some positions may be subject to a fingerprint check.
  • Ability to perform the listed physical activities, including lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, crouching, kneeling, crawling, driving, and working in adverse weather conditions.
Responsibilities
  • Perform landscaping and maintain grounds using hand-powered tools and equipment.
  • Plant, trim, lay sod, water, and mow areas around college buildings and facilities, and maintain landscaping equipment.
  • Operate light to moderately heavy equipment used in landscape maintenance, including equipment for trimming, mowing, watering, pruning, and grounds maintenance.
  • Plant and transplant trees, shrubs, and flowers; sod grass; plant seed; pull weeds; and spray fertilizer and insecticides.
  • Report equipment repair problems to the Facility Manager.
  • Pick up litter from campus pavement and grounds areas.
  • Perform routine landscaping functions such as mowing, edging, and litter control across Dallas College locations.
  • Maintain assigned equipment.
  • Work with facilities teammates to provide customer service and safe, healthy grounds for students, faculty, and staff.
  • Assist other facilities management teams as required.
  • Complete required Dallas College professional development training hours per academic year.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and maintain regular, predictable attendance.
