Position Purpose:
This position provides professional legal support by assisting supervising attorneys with a wide range of tasks. The role involves general liability (tort and personal injury) litigation support. Specialists will draftlegal and business communication, participate matter management for pending general liability litigation, gather documents and respond to litigation and discovery requests.
Key Responsibilities:
- 18% Conduct legal research/research business problems and provide recommendations as to course of action; respond to clients’ and defense counsel legal inquiries under the supervision of counsel; review legal documents, motions and briefs to identify key issues
- 18% Under supervision, draft business/legal communications typically using template forms (e.g., discovery and release agreements)
- 18% General file/database management - maintain complete and accurate electronic files for all assigned matters
- 18% Gather relevant documents for litigation responses, discovery and litigation procedures, and regulatory compliance (e.g. Medicare) filings
- 18% Negotiate settlement of smaller matters (e.g., small-claims litigation)
- 10% Other tasks as assigned by supervisor
Direct Manager/Direct Reports:
- Position reports to Attorney, Sr. Attorney, Counsel or Sr. Counsel
- No direct reports
Travel Requirements:
- Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.
Physical Requirements:
- Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.
Working Conditions:
- Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be eighteen years of age or older.
- Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Paralegal certificate
- 3-5 yrs experience as a paralegal in a law firm or corporate legal department
- Legally eligible to work in the United States

- The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a associate’s degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.
