Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a comparable field.
  • At least 12 years of experience as a systems engineer developing space systems.
  • Direct work experience on 5 or more distinct flight programs developing space hardware.
  • Direct work experience as a technical lead on 5 or more space hardware development efforts.
  • Experience working across multiple engineering disciplines, including electrical, mechanical, and software systems.
  • At least 5 distinct experiences successfully capturing government contracts and working with U.S. government customers to develop space systems.
  • Ability to drive cross-functional efforts and deliver results in fast-paced, schedule-critical environments.
  • Organizational, communication, and writing skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • An active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility.
  • Eligibility under U.S. Government space technology export regulations: U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residence, protected-individual status, or eligibility to obtain required U.S. Department of State authorizations.
Responsibilities
  • Identify satellite technologies of strategic interest to the business, vet ideas with senior leaders, and down-select to a focused portfolio of pursuits.
  • Work with Sales/Business Development and Customer Program Managers to source research and development funds by writing whitepapers, creating pitch slides, and meeting with prospective customers, often at their facilities.
  • Drive technical execution on funded programs while continuing to assess each idea's impact and feasibility.
  • Evangelize promising ideas or identify showstopping issues based on ongoing research and development assessment.
  • Transition validated prototypes ready for integration into BlackSky's operational architecture to the appropriate Engineering team.
  • Mentor other engineers by sharing extensive knowledge of relevant technologies and capabilities.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

BlackSky to provide satellites for world's largest AI space infrastructure in $1B initiative

BlackSky Technology has been named the exclusive provider of very high-resolution electro-optical satellites for a new international space initiative. The announcement was made at the International Space Summit in Paris alongside French President Emmanuel Macron. The project involves a 50-satellite constellation developed under a $1 billion investment led by a consortium including Marlan Space, Loft Orbital, Mistral AI, and other space leaders in the UAE and France. BlackSky Technology CEO Brian O'Toole sold 15,512 shares of common stock on 10 June 2026 for approximately $529,000, according to an SEC filing. The shares were sold at $34.10 each, above the day's opening price of $31.38 and closing price of $31.79. The transaction reduced O'Toole's direct holdings by 1.3%, leaving him with substantial ownership valued at $36.2 million based on the closing price. The sale represents one of O'Toole's larger transactions but fits within his established selling pattern, marking his fourth sale since March 2025. BlackSky Technology provides geospatial intelligence and satellite imagery services to government and commercial clients. The company reported $97.81 million in trailing twelve-month revenue and employs 297 people.
