Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree.
  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
  • Technical competence in the appropriate subject matter and the ability to apply this knowledge to solve problems.
  • Understanding of the learning and development processes of youth and adults.
  • Knowledge of a variety of teaching methods to provide effective learning experiences.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to reside in the county, access to a personal vehicle, a valid Texas Driver's License, appropriate insurance coverage, and willingness to travel for official duties.
Responsibilities
  • Implement planned educational programs and activities in assigned program areas addressing critical issues and emerging needs in Brooks County.
  • Support and assist with educational programs and activities led by other staff members.
  • Identify, recruit, and train local volunteer leaders for committees, clubs, and organizations.
  • Use varied teaching methods, strategies, activities, and materials to conduct educational programs.
  • Comply with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Prairie View A&M University's Affirmative Action Plan when conducting extension educational programs.
  • Work with and support extension-sponsored groups, including 4-H clubs, community-based organizations, and master volunteer groups, to increase participation and strengthen programs.
  • Plan educational programs and activities with committees, task forces, groups, and organizations.
  • Develop comprehensive outcome and output program plans addressing base programs, critical issues, and clientele needs.
  • Plan evaluation strategies for outcome-directed programs and significant program activities.
  • Plan regularly with total staff to coordinate programming efforts.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with agencies, groups, and organizations to plan educational programs.
  • Maintain communication with county, district, and administrative staff at Prairie View A&M University to support understanding of the county program.
  • Prepare monthly, annual, and special reports and outcome program summaries documenting planning, program accomplishments, and changes in behavior resulting from educational programs.
  • Conduct interpretation events for county and state elected officials to report program accomplishments and outcomes.
  • Develop a long-range professional improvement plan with the appropriate regional program leader and district extension administrator.
  • Develop an annual individual development plan addressing short-term professional improvement needs and career goals.
  • Participate in formal and informal training opportunities to increase knowledge and skills and maintain technical competencies.
  • Participate in county staff conferences to coordinate plans, activities, and joint work.
  • Assist with maintaining files, mailing lists, membership rolls, and inventories of extension-related organizations.
  • Conduct annual performance reviews with assigned support staff members or coordinate with staff members who share supervision responsibilities.
  • Perform extension agent responsibilities professionally through coordination and cooperation with county staff under the supervision of the regional program leader.
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere through professional communication with customers, coworkers, and supervisors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Master's degree.
  • Three or more years of experience in teaching, research, or a related field in areas such as family and consumer sciences, family and community health, home economics, social sciences, childhood obesity, health and wellness, nutrition and parenting, mental health, life skills parenting, marriage and family relations, juvenile justice, public service, or dietetics.
