Requirements
  • Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, or Petroleum Engineering from an accredited university is required.
  • 3+ years of relevant industrial experience in chemical, petroleum, or biochemical process design engineering is required.
  • Basic knowledge of chemical/biochemical process engineering and chemical/biochemical process computer programs is required.
  • Familiarity with specifications and installation details of equipment, instrumentation, and piping is required.
  • Working knowledge of CAD software preferred, either AutoCAD or Microstation (or both) is required.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook is required.
  • Working knowledge in the use of hydraulic simulation software such as AFT Fathom, AFT Arrow, PIPEPHASE, PIPE-FLO, and/or SiNet is required.
  • Working knowledge in the use of process simulation software such as Aspen Plus, Aspen Plus Dynamics, PRO/II, DYNSIM, HYSYS, CHEMCAD, WinGEMS, ProMax, etc. is required.
  • Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time is required.
Responsibilities
  • Analyze pressure relief scenarios and calculate relief loads for various equipment and systems.
  • Select appropriate relief valves based on process conditions, fluid properties, and applicable codes.
  • Size relief devices and effluent handling systems, including flares.
  • Perform fluid flow and hydraulic studies for relief valve networks.
  • Update P&IDs to reflect changes to relief systems.
  • Conduct engineering studies and troubleshooting of existing relief systems.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
  • Review vendor documentation for relief valves and related equipment.
  • Collaborate with process, controls, and other engineering disciplines.
  • Gather field data and information for relief system design and analysis.
  • Audit installed relief systems to ensure compliance with design.
  • Document all calculations, analysis, and work processes in a clear and concise manner.
Desired Qualifications
  • Professional Engineering registration or CPIP certification is highly preferred.
