Requirements
- Demonstrated enhanced knowledge and expertise in mammography, including maintaining a safe mammography environment.
- Knowledge of basic anatomy, physiology, and general procedural room care as they relate to mammography patient care.
- Proficiency with imaging equipment, office equipment, related patient-care and imaging-exam materials, and Synapse.
- Ability to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.
- Graduation from a Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology-approved school of radiologic technology.
- Current registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in radiography, or registry eligibility; registration is required within one year of graduation from a Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology-approved school.
- For magnetic resonance imaging assignments, American Registry of Radiologic Technologists magnetic resonance imaging registry eligibility or magnetic resonance registration is preferred, with formal education or previous on-the-job training recommended.
- For magnetic resonance imaging technician assignments, six months of on-the-job training is required, including a Medical Director-approved off-site instruction course of one or two weeks, followed by a three-month probation.
- Ability to perform the duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Normal or corrected hearing and vision within the normal range.
- Physical presence onsite is essential.
Responsibilities
- Provide imaging services and transportation to patients of all ages, from neonates through geriatric patients, and explain procedures thoroughly to patients and families.
- Uphold safety standards, established protocols, practices, and guidelines for the assigned area, including Joint Commission standards.
- Use AIDET principles and I Care principles to support patient identification, correct examinations, communication, engagement, and patient and family care.
- Collaborate with departments, imaging modalities, and personnel to provide patient care.
- Practice stewardship of supplies, equipment, and department resources.
- Understand clinical history, supply and examination charges, and billing practices.
- Correlate clinical history with the examinations being performed.
- Practice radiation safety and dose-reduction procedures.
- Maintain personal qualifications required by American College of Radiology, Food and Drug Administration, and Mammography Quality Standards Act requirements.
- Participate in mammography quality control and complete documentation for all mammography equipment.
- Perform duties required to maintain accreditation and maintain quality-control records.
- Control and maintain inventory and supplies with managers, supervisors, and staff, and communicate problems and supply needs.
- Care for, clean, and maintain imaging, transport, and office supplies, equipment, and software.
- Instruct and supervise student technologists and new employees as assigned.
- Perform on-call assignments during off-duty hours when required.
- When assigned as charge or lead technologist, facilitate and coordinate services, serve as a contact for radiologists, physician offices, and departments, communicate protocol and equipment changes to other shifts, and monitor area or department needs.
- Work required per-diem holidays and shifts according to the stated per-diem schedule requirements.
- Function proficiently in the specified area with little or no supervision.
- Maintain performance, patient and employee satisfaction, and financial standards.
- Complete required education, computer-based training, in-services, meetings, and educational sessions.
- Use electronic mail, time-and-attendance software, learning-management software, and the intranet, and respond to communications in a timely manner.
- Follow DCH Health System policies, procedures, and behavioral standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
