Requirements
- A high school diploma or GED is required.
- Team Leader experience is required.
- Graduation from a Team Leader Academy or a college degree is required.
- Experience using Microsoft Office products is required.
- Knowledge and skill in the production processes, safety rules and regulations, inspection criteria and methods, and plant-wide initiatives relevant to the assigned area are required.
- Ability to instruct, direct, supervise, and lead individuals and teams is required.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and other customer specifications is required.
- Ability to operate a computer and use basic database, spreadsheet, word-processing, and email programs is required.
- Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position is required, including standing and moving on concrete for 8–12 hours per day and occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to learn and retain new information is required.
- Ability to organize and manage tasks effectively is required.
- A self-directed approach and initiative are required.
- Emergency First Aid, CPR, and Automated External Defibrillator certification is required and will be provided after hire.
- Additional certifications required to effectively lead and perform the job may include welding or paint certification.
- Ability to speak, read, and write effectively in English is required.
- Employees must wear mandated eye, head, hearing, hand, and foot personal protective equipment.
Responsibilities
- Direct and manage trailer production activities for the assigned area, ensuring production schedules are met and trailers conform to the provided engineering drawings.
- Ensure employees comply with all safety rules and requirements.
- Manage and direct employee activities to consistently meet production, quality, and safety requirements.
- Define weekly staffing plans based on production volume and prepare the production line for the next shift.
- Manage team-created rework, defects, and scrap and implement preventative measures.
- Implement and follow up on Lean Manufacturing activities.
- Perform safety observations.
- Define and review standard work with the Manufacturing Engineering department.
- Update team training matrices.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area using 5S principles.
- Interview and train employees; plan, assign, and direct work; appraise performance; reward and discipline employees; resolve grievances, complaints, and problems.
- Attend weekly safety meetings, communicate meeting topics to employees, enforce safety guidelines, and discipline employees when guidelines are not followed.
- Attend weekly review meetings comparing Sales Order information with the Bill of Materials, identify discrepancies, and obtain resolutions before jobs begin on the production floor.
- Coordinate with other Supervisors and the Superintendent to resolve issues that could prevent the production schedule from being met.
- Work with the Engineering Department to resolve build-process issues that could create product quality, safety, or performance problems.
- Communicate with the Production Manager and the Manufacturing Engineering/Maintenance Manager to address tooling, quality, and safety concerns while maintaining the production schedule.
- Manage direct reports’ timecards, including in/out punches, timecard approvals, and vacation submissions and approvals.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
