Requirements
  • A BS or MS degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or another relevant discipline.
  • 15+ years of relevant experience in the water/wastewater industry.
  • A Registered Professional Engineer or other professional certification or registration appropriate for the primary field of expertise in the states where the company or individual works, or the ability to obtain the same by reciprocity.
  • Ability to lead teams, develop business, manage projects, cultivate client relationships, and oversee water/wastewater project execution.
Responsibilities
  • Foster a culture of growth, innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning within the company.
  • Lead and inspire teams of engineers, scientists, project managers, and support staff to deliver high-quality project results.
  • Recruit, mentor, and develop junior and mid-level staff, promoting growth and career advancement.
  • Cultivate, engage, and maintain relationships with new and existing clients and partners.
  • Support implementation of business practices and processes.
  • Lead projects from development through completion, including schedules, scopes, budget estimates, implementation plans, quality assurance and quality control, and risk management.
  • Understand contract risks, terms and conditions, and professional liability matters, and mitigate risk in consultation with senior or divisional leadership.
  • Address and resolve complex situations related to project execution, client demands, fiscal management, growth initiatives, business development, staffing, and administration.
  • Prepare proposals and scopes of work and review or approve project budgets.
  • Complete project initiation documents containing scope, budget, and schedule details.
  • Manage project implementation according to company procedures and schedules while keeping clients informed and supporting project team members.
  • Delegate tasks to project managers and other staff with appropriate support.
  • Coordinate with peers and subconsultants to anticipate and address schedule and staffing conflicts.
  • Supervise interdisciplinary teams, including project managers, subcontractors, subconsultants, and staff.
  • Provide technical advice and contribute to project recommendations.
  • Ensure high-quality technical memoranda, reports, and presentations through established review and quality-control processes.
  • Meet with clients to discuss projects, company performance, client satisfaction, and cross-selling opportunities.
  • Track project costs and ensure timely invoicing in accordance with company policy.
  • Negotiate amendments and change orders and consult leadership on sensitive matters.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities, cross-selling opportunities, competitive bids, and relevant technology or regulatory factors.
  • Solicit new clients and projects and coordinate meetings with prospective and existing clients and technical staff.
  • Proactively identify cross-selling opportunities outside the area of expertise.
  • Manage and lead sales processes for existing clients, including large, complex, or multi-project clients.
  • Prepare proposals, lead proposal teams, participate in project interviews, negotiate fees, prepare contracts, and present information to prospective clients.
  • Manage, support, and evaluate direct reports, including onboarding, offboarding, workload management, time and expense approval, career development, and performance management.
  • Perform or participate in annual staff reviews.
  • Mentor and coach staff at all experience levels, especially project managers.
  • Assist with recruitment, interviews, onboarding, and hiring or assimilation of new staff.
  • Identify strategic hires and target recruiting efforts to support company financial and strategic goals.
