GQ is seeking a motivated and creative social media video specialist to produce, shoot, and edit compelling social video, curate from a dynamic video library, and assist with community management on the brand’s social channels — primarily on video-first platforms like TikTok and Instagram, along with Facebook, Twitter and other emerging platforms.
This is a highly collaborative and cross-functional role that will collaborate with GQ editorial, talent, social, video, and creative teams to create original video content around GQ’s editorial franchises, tentpole events, cultural calendar, photo and video shoots, and more. They will be responsible for owning the social video calendar, ideating new concepts, filming and editing, day-to-day social copy writing and on-platform publishing, along with reporting on audience insights and performance to the wider team. As the social video specialist, they will use data to inform the creative process, ensuring that content is optimized to sustain watch-time, drive engagement, and grow social following. They will also stay on top of social trends and ensure that GQ is part of the conversation with original, fresh and cutting-edge video concepts.
Ideal candidates will be social video experts, strong communicators, able to manage brand growth goals, pitch creative concepts, and should understand and be able to clearly communicate the GQ voice and identity through social video. Along with a passion for storytelling and attention to detail, the candidate must have in-depth social media experience and a proven history of growing social video views and audiences on TikTok and Instagram.
They must have a deep enthusiasm and strong understanding of fashion, style, music, Hollywood, and the cultural landscape that GQ covers, with the ability to tell unique and nuanced stories about the culture’s biggest faces, places and brands across multiple social platforms through the GQ lens. They should have an instinct for what’s on (and off) brand, deep knowledge of social platforms, an eye for powerful visuals and storytelling through video, understand how data can inform a smart social video strategy, and be an expert at juggling multiple projects, managing deadlines, distilling social numbers into actionable insights, and advocating for strong social content across the organization.
Primary Responsibilities:
Master the GQ editorial voice and help to translate it to social media in engaging ways.
Manage day-to-day posting, editing, and optimization of content on multiple social media platforms including Instagram and TikTok, while adjusting content and advising on strategy for platforms like Instagram Stories and YouTube Shorts.
Collect and communicate best practices for vertical social video, ensuring that clips of existing video and newly developed videos are optimized for social platforms.
Work closely with editorial stakeholders to roll out big stories, cover launches, live events, breaking news, and major cultural events on social by ideating, developing, shooting and editing original social videos.
Serve as the production lead on all social content - including repurposed and repackaged content, as well as original social series.
Own and maintain the GQ Social Video calendar for shoots, events and publishing dates. Manage pre-production and post-production process, including, but not limited to, shoot schedules, budgets, and creative outlines
Generate ideas for preexisting series as well as new pilots specific for short-form social platforms. Develop and produce new vertical video series for social channels.
Delve into the GQ video library to resurface existing video at the right time depending on what is happening in the zeitgeist.
Appear as on-camera talent in social video concepts, as appropriate.
Collaborate with the commercial team on social deliverables as needed.
Coordinate with editors and publicists to ensure talent promotion and collaboration on social
Monitor content performance and refine strategy based on KPI pacing and what content is trending on social. Collaborate with the Audience Development team on recurring performance reports that are sent to the wider GQ team and highlight any wins and losses for inclusion in reporting.
Brainstorm new ideas and plan rollout strategies for testing. Stay up to date on evolving features, trends, and popular social platforms.
Additional responsibilities as assigned
Requirements:
5+ years of social media experience and video production or editing
Proficient in Adobe Premiere Pro, Photoshop, After Effects, and familiarity with editing in app
Passionate about social media and cultural topics that GQ covers (particularly men’s fashion)
A finger on the pulse of social trends across platforms (especially TikTok ,Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube Shorts)
Proven ability to operate, balancing long-term value with near-term business goals, ability to manage heavy workload and prioritize appropriately
Positive team player and an enthusiastic work ethic
Familiarity with GQ’s content, tone and voice
Strong writing and communication skills
Strong editorial judgment
Excellent organizational skills, focus, and attention to detail
Must complete an edit test
The expected base salary range for this position is from $73,000-$110,000. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including but not limited to relevant skills, training, experience, and education.
In addition to salary and a generous employee benefits package, successful candidates may also be eligible to receive discretionary bonus compensation.
