Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • At least 10 years of experience in interconnect, harness, or electromechanical design, including at least 5 years on spacecraft or aerospace programs.
  • Hands-on experience selecting and qualifying connectors for space environments, including thermal cycling, vibration, vacuum, and outgassing.
  • Familiarity with IPC-620, J-STD, and relevant NASA, ECSS, and SAE workmanship standards.
  • Experience with computer-aided design and harness design tools such as SolidWorks, RapidHarness, or Zuken, or equivalent tools.
  • Proficiency with laboratory equipment including multimeters, soldering equipment, crimpers, time-domain reflectometers, and hand tools.
  • Direct experience managing international component and cable vendors.
Responsibilities
  • Own the end-to-end design, development, and manufacturing transition of spacecraft harnesses, cables, connectors, and interconnect solutions for a low Earth orbit satellite constellation.
  • Design and qualify custom and commercial off-the-shelf connectors for spacecraft applications, including shielded and unshielded low-pin-count, board-to-board, coaxial, high-speed, and fiber-optic interfaces.
  • Own connector-selection trade studies across mass, volume, retention force, signal integrity, and space-qualification requirements.
  • Develop overmolding tooling and processes for connector space qualification.
  • Coordinate with domestic and East Asian connector vendors on custom solutions, design reviews, and qualification activities.
  • Own cable and harness design, including wire-gauge selection, shielding architecture, routing, and drawing creation.
  • Drive cable manufacturing solutions from prototype through volume production.
  • Evaluate specialty cables, including ultra-lightweight coaxial cables and space-grade fiber-optic assemblies.
  • Support harness manufacturing-process development, including stripping, termination, potting, sleeving, taping, and fixation.
  • Develop and maintain the Electrical Interface Control Document and from/to interconnect lists that drive connector selection across the spacecraft bus.
  • Interface with systems, radio-frequency, power, and digital teams on signal routing, impedance requirements, and electromagnetic interference/electromagnetic compatibility considerations.
  • Work with internal engineering teams to optimize board placement and the overall connectivity strategy.
  • Evaluate emerging interconnect technologies, including laser-cut flexible printed circuits, conductive adhesives, silver-ink traces, and roll-to-roll-compatible solutions for antenna and thin-film applications.
  • Manage vendor relationships for connectors, cables, and interconnect components across domestic and East Asian suppliers.
  • Support manufacturing-equipment sourcing and process development for cable stripping, termination, and assembly.
  • Partner with manufacturing teams on engineering-to-manufacturing transitions, including process validation, documentation, and first-article support.
  • Drive design-for-manufacturing optimization of interconnect solutions to meet cost and mass targets at constellation scale.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with high-speed interconnects such as PCI Express and Low-Voltage Differential Signaling, along with signal-integrity fundamentals.
  • Coaxial cable design and radio-frequency connector experience.
  • Fiber-optic interconnect experience, including transceiver integration and cable assemblies.
  • Exposure to flexible and rigid-flexible printed-circuit-board design and mechanical packaging.
  • Experience with Altium Designer for printed-circuit-board-level connector integration.
  • Background in new-product introduction and scaling from prototype to volume production in NewSpace or high-rate manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with low Earth orbit constellation environments and radiation considerations.
