Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree, preferably with a Risk Management and Insurance major, or equivalent work experience is required.
  • At least 1 year of commercial insurance underwriting experience is required.
  • The candidate should have achieved or be working toward an industry designation such as Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter, Certified Risk Manager, Associate in Risk Management, or Chartered Insurance Counselor.
  • Ability to travel monthly to meet assigned brokers in the region is required.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States; employment visa sponsorship or transfer of sponsorship is unavailable.
  • Knowledge of general liability construction, real estate, and service providers and the current market environment is required.
  • Knowledge of underwriting practices, coverage, and pricing and rating methodologies is required.
  • Knowledge of the producer and competitor marketplace and targeted industries is required.
  • Knowledge of insurance company operations, company systems, procedures, and processes is required.
  • Solid understanding of policy wordings and clauses is required.
  • Understanding of available pricing and underwriting tools is required.
Responsibilities
  • Analyze excess and surplus product liability submissions from broker partners to determine risk eligibility within the core excess and surplus product liability appetite.
  • Determine appropriate limits, attachment points, pricing, and terms that provide adequate underwriting profit on each risk.
  • Execute primary general liability business plans and objectives.
  • Build the company's reputation and presence in the small- to medium-sized products liability market.
  • Provide prompt and accurate customer service on policy transactions.
  • Ensure that considered and bound risks remain within delegated authority, underwriting standards, risk selection, peer review, and pricing methodologies.
  • Document underwriting activities and decisions in files as required.
  • Support company and department goals and objectives.
  • Build relationships with broker partners.
  • Perform other duties reasonably required by the company.
  • Carry out duties according to internal policies and procedures, applicable law, rules, regulations, good governance, and company values.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Risk Management and Insurance major is preferred.
  • Knowledge of general liability construction, real estate, and service providers is preferred.
  • An industry designation such as Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter, Certified Risk Manager, Associate in Risk Management, or Chartered Insurance Counselor is preferred or may be in progress.

Jeff Consolino named Core Specialty chairman as Ed Noonan steps down after six years

Core Specialty Insurance Holdings has announced changes to its Board of Directors. Ed Noonan has stepped down as Executive Chairman after serving since the company's 2020 recapitalisation. Jeff Consolino, the company's founder, president and CEO, has assumed the role of Executive Chairman effective immediately. The company has also appointed Bart van der Vlugt to its Board of Directors. Van der Vlugt is a principal at Sixth Street, which he joined in 2021, where he focuses on insurance sector investments including Sixth Street's partnership with Enstar Group Limited. Enstar, backed by Sixth Street-managed investment vehicles, provided Core Specialty with insurance companies and reinsurance agreements at the company's formation in 2020.
