Requirements
  • A master's degree in engineering, or a master's degree and 18 graduate semester hours in Mechanical Engineering, from a regionally accredited institution.
  • A passion for teaching in engineering.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • The ability to use innovative teaching techniques.
  • Familiarity with distance learning and willingness to use technology tools in instruction.
  • The ability to use collaborative learning techniques and student-centered methods of instruction.
  • The ability to work well with students and colleagues in a multi-ethnic and multicultural environment.
  • The ability to work a flexible schedule that may include evening and weekend assignments.
Responsibilities
  • Facilitate student learning by delivering assigned classes in accordance with college policy and course objectives.
  • Use available technology to enhance instructional methods.
  • Supplement and alter lesson plans, assignments, tests, and materials where appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate student records, grades, and other required documentation.
  • Engage proactively and regularly with students in meaningful and productive ways that impact student learning and contribute to a positive student experience.
  • Develop and implement teaching strategies focused on engaging students with their learning.
  • Interact with students and co-workers in a professional and cooperative manner while complying with college policies, guidelines, and expectations.
  • Maintain a safe, quality educational environment.
  • Promote an inclusive environment that reflects the diversity and backgrounds represented by students and employees, in which every individual feels respected and valued.
  • Teach assigned courses as scheduled.
  • Design curriculum that embraces diversity and fosters student talent while modeling inclusive teaching strategies and understanding sociocultural issues affecting traditionally underrepresented groups.
  • Consider individual student differences when designing and supporting appropriate learning activities.
  • Participate in identifying students with academic or other needs and respond by using appropriate resources.
  • Use technology appropriately for course and program objectives and clearly communicate technology-use expectations to students.
  • Keep accurate and appropriate records in accordance with departmental policies.
  • Maintain attendance records, determine and submit grades on time according to college policies and procedures, and communicate progress feedback and other relevant information to students throughout the semester.
  • Distribute and maintain accurate syllabi incorporating departmental, college, cross-college, and instructor requirements.
  • Conduct classes punctually according to the prescribed meeting schedule and use appropriate assessment techniques to measure student performance against course goals and objectives.
  • Participate in periodic meetings with the department, Lead Instructor, and Chairperson concerning teaching duties and professional development.
Desired Qualifications
  • At least two years of college teaching experience.
  • At least two years of related industrial experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of current technologies appropriate to the area of instruction.
