Job Description:
Parsons is seeking a Research Technician III to support Naval Medical Research Unit – San Antonio (NAMRU-SA) and its collaborating institutions in the conduct of research in Combat Casualty Care and Operational Medicine, Craniofacial Health and Restorative Medicine, and Directed Energy. NAMRU-SA’s mission is to improve survival, operational readiness, and safety of DoD personnel engaged in routine and expeditionary operations.
The Research Technician will be responsible for supporting laboratory-based research applying the latest scientific knowledge towards solutions for a broad range of theoretical and practical problems in the areas of hemorrhage and resuscitation, immunomodulation, directed energy bioeffects, bioassay development, craniofacial, and infectious diseases.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Implements and maintains research files.
- Assists with research design. Modifies and plans research experiments, procedures, and tests
- Recommends changes to protocols and standard operating procedures.
- Assist Government personnel with the implementation of sponsored and PI initiated laboratory research studies, including maintenance of study records and activities associated with internal and external audits.
- Prepare and present status reports on research activities.
- Assists with preparation for presentations and written published articles.
- Sets up, operates, modifies and calibrates laboratory equipment and apparatus.
- Assists the Government in ordering and assists the Government in maintaining inventory of supplies related to research under this task order.
- Makes judgments concerning suitability of potential participants for research and/or clinical trials.
- Analyze data using scientific and statistical techniques.
- Conducts and supports surgical procedure, operating room maintenance, animal disease prevention and health surveillance, appropriate animal housing, record keeping, and monitoring specific pathogen free techniques; services shall not include inherently Governmental functions.
- Maintains traffic patterns, sterile equipment, pest control, and record keeping.
- Handle and restrain various small and large animal species.
- Assists the Government in animal procurement and shipping procedures; services shall not include inherently Governmental functions.
- Organizes animal research work activities between Research Scientist, animal care staff, and research laboratory technicians.
What Required Skills You’ll Bring:
- Associates degree with 5+ years of experience, or Bachelor’s degree plus 3+ years of experience, or Master’s degree plus 1 year experience in a related field.
- Experience conducting research in Combat Casualty Care and Operational Medicine including biomedical systems engineering and evaluation, cellular and immune based adjunct for casualty care, and expeditionary and trauma medicine.
- Ability to use sound judgment in problem solving and excellent interpersonal and communications skills required.

What Desired Skills You’ll Bring:
- Preferred experience within a military/DoD research setting.
- Knowledge of Craniofacial Health and Restorative Medicine including biomaterials, epidemiology, environmental surveillance, and maxillofacial injury and disease.
- Knowledge of Directed Energy including medical laser bioeffects, medical electromagnetic field (EMF) bioeffects, and medical modeling and simulation of directed energy bioeffects.
