Requirements
  • Be registered with the State of Oregon as a registered nurse.
  • Be in good standing with the Oregon Board of Nursing.
  • Pass a criminal history background check and ongoing exclusion-list checks.
  • Possess or acquire knowledge of symptoms and challenges faced by people with mental illness and addictions, as well as relevant Oregon Administrative Rules.
  • Effectively communicate verbally and in writing, work independently, and complete responsibilities thoroughly and on time.
  • Professionally work with the public and coordinate services across agencies and community groups.
  • Develop cooperative and respectful relationships with clients and their families.
  • Possess or acquire knowledge of the recovery model.
  • Work effectively with teams and groups.
  • Adhere to rules and laws pertaining to client confidentiality.
  • Possess or acquire functional knowledge of business English and medical terminology.
  • Have good spelling and basic mathematical skills.
  • Learn assigned tasks readily and adhere to general office procedures.
  • Have good organizational and time-management skills.
  • Have in-depth knowledge of standard office equipment.
  • Hold a current valid driver's license and be insurable or carry insurance for client service purposes and travel between business offices, the community, and required meetings or training.
  • Pass a pre-hire drug screen.
  • Maintain personal auto insurance with at least $300,000 liability coverage for bodily injury and $100,000 property-damage coverage when using a privately owned vehicle for company business.
  • Meet the physical demands of the role, including standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, occasional climbing or balancing, and regularly lifting or moving up to 10 pounds.
Responsibilities
  • Provide mental health nursing care, medication oversight, and treatment to clients of the REACH Facility.
  • Administer oral medications and hypodermic injections according to physician prescriptions and procedures.
  • Take and record patients' pulse, temperature, respiration, and other measures of general physical condition.
  • Observe patients for behavior patterns and report observations to medical staff.
  • Lead prescribed individual or group therapy and education sessions as part of therapeutic procedures.
  • Contact patients' relatives by telephone to arrange family conferences.
  • Issue medications from the dispensary and maintain records according to specified procedures.
  • Educate staff and patients about personal hygiene, including bathing and maintaining clean beds, clothing, and living areas.
  • Educate and train staff on medication administration and ensure documentation complies with policies.
  • Report abuse to the appropriate legal office, complete required paperwork and investigations, and develop safety plans as required.
  • Participate in joint case planning and service coordination with agency employees and contractors.
  • Act as a liaison between clients and other agencies and as a client advocate when appropriate.
  • Provide after-hours emergency services on a rotating 24-hour basis, including telephone consultation and crisis intervention in the community and facility.
  • Complete paperwork professionally, clinically, and timely according to Oregon Administrative Rules and other applicable guidelines.
  • Ensure required paperwork is present and client records are maintained properly.
  • Participate in seclusion and restraint practices as necessary.
  • Conduct assessments as needed.
  • Travel occasionally out of the area and stay overnight for meetings or training.
  • Respond to community and client environments where conditions may be unpredictable, including crisis situations and uneven terrain.

  • Experience working with people who have mental illnesses in a residential or psychiatric hospital setting.
  • Experience with youth or pediatric populations.
