Requirements
  • The applicant must be currently matriculated as a law student and based in the United States for the entire duration of the internship.
  • The applicant must be a law student who has completed their first year (1L) by Summer 2026 or be enrolled in a Master of Laws program.
  • Demonstrated commitment to public interest law, civil liberties, and racial justice.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct complex legal analysis and fact finding.
  • Excellent research skills, including internet and legal database research.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Initiative to see projects through to completion.
  • Commitment to work collaboratively and respectfully toward resolving obstacles and/or conflicts.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct legal research and analysis and to support litigation.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity within the office, valuing differences in race, ethnicity, age, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, religion, disability and socio-economic circumstances.
Responsibilities
  • Conduct legal research and analysis to support new and active litigation projects.
  • Aid in drafting of legal memoranda, pleadings, affidavits, motions, and briefs.
  • Draft and edit public education and non-litigation advocacy materials.
  • Provide support and assistance to ACLU affiliates and cooperating attorneys.
