Requirements
  • 10+ years of experience with naval architecture for naval vessels
  • Experience with stability testing and seakeeping trials
  • Experience with shipbuilding and ship design, technical drawing reviews, requirements analysis, and ship prototyping
  • Experience with ship design and analysis software packages and tools
  • Experience working in a multi-disciplinary team consisting of systems engineers, electrical and electronics engineers, acquisition professionals, and logistics and sustainment professionals to achieve program outcomes
  • Knowledge of ship systems, weight distribution studies and testing, hydrostatics, hydrodynamics, ship design integration, and marine structural design
  • Ability to generate and perform quantitative analyses of ship design concepts and analyze ship designs through review of design artifacts
  • Top Secret clearance
  • Bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or Ocean Engineering
Responsibilities
  • Help Navy acquisition organizations acquire or develop mission-suitable Navy vessels and systems
  • Apply naval architecture experience to performing and supporting related research and development (R&D), integration, and test and evaluation (T&E) activities in support of acquisition programs for Navy shipbuilding
  • Architect, design, and evaluate the operation of naval vessels
  • Develop ship concept designs, conduct concept design studies and analyses, and perform operational or performance evaluations
  • Design software to prepare plans, drawings, and analytical models
  • Evaluate designs for feasibility and analyze critical elements or performance of the design using analytic tools, model scale- and full-scale testing, or prototypes, as appropriate
  • Prepare reports and make recommendations for design changes
  • Identify and apply regulatory, industry, and Navy standards
  • Work cross-functionally with a technical and acquisition team consisting of engineers of other disciplines
  • Lead naval architecture activities in support of program efforts
  • Grow the skills and capabilities of junior engineers and naval architects
  • Promote a positive, inclusive culture
