Requirements
  • A law degree from an accredited American Bar Association law school preferred
  • At least 2 – 5 years of experience in construction contract drafting, review and negotiations
  • Extensive experience in legal review of contracts
  • Excellent organizational and communication (interpersonal) skills
  • Legal writing proficiency
  • Ability to participate in significant customer interaction and demonstrate problem-solving abilities
  • Adaptability and willingness to be trained on various technology platforms
  • Aptitude to be proactive, positive, customer-focused, and prioritize multiple deadlines
Responsibilities
  • Provide expert guidance to those within the University Community seeking legally binding agreements, with the goal of minimizing risk and liability to the University in accordance with University policy and audit requirements.
  • Structure, draft, review, and negotiate contractual language, Master Service Agreements (MSAs), and standardized templates for use across vendors, developing and maintaining a library of such standard agreements and terms.
  • Engage University stakeholders and suppliers as necessary to ensure efficient services, acting as liaison with review by the University's Office of General Counsel, Risk Management, Tax, Compliance, Planning and Facilities, and Information Services departments, as appropriate, to ensure that contracts are compliant with University policy as well as federal and state laws.
  • Utilize legal skills to anticipate and protect the University against legal risks associated with construction and other capital projects.
  • Manage all aspects of contract reviews and negotiations for capital projects, including architecture, construction, and other specified commodities.
  • Work with the PFM department to ensure the efficient management of capital project budgets.
  • Assist with preparing bids and negotiate specifications for materials, equipment, labor, or other capital related purchases for goods and services, securing all necessary approvals and ensuring suppliers are compliant with University’s procedures.
  • Coordinate routinely with leadership across the University to plan and facilitate procurement for capital projects, staying abreast of and contributing to sourcing and procurement's professional trends and functional innovation particularly around legal and contractual matters.
  • Manage day-to-day risk mitigation issues and implement policies and procedures to minimize enterprise risk associated with contracting practices.
  • Identify creative solutions to challenges relating to purchasing or general contracting processes, collaborating across the University with leadership and various internal clients.
  • Manage, mentor, and coach team members and direct report(s), ensuring efficient processing of contracts and compliance with the University’s policies and procedures.

  • Oversee daily operations of contracts for PFM and specific projects assigned.
  • Manage all aspects of contract reviews and negotiations for capital projects, including architecture, construction, and other specified commodities.
  • Develop and implement strategic procurement management plan for capital projects, working with Planning and PFM and the capital project budget team.
  • Identify creative solutions to challenges relating to purchasing or general contracting processes, engaging University stakeholders and suppliers as necessary to ensure efficient service.
