Requirements
  • A valid current or temporary Alaska Registered Nurse license is required.
  • An Associate's degree in nursing is required.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, additional certification, or continuing education may be required based on the area of practice.
  • The role requires creative thinking, prioritization, flexible problem solving, and clear verbal and written communication.
  • Recent experience working in an acute care setting as a Registered Nurse in the specialty area is required, with experience within the past 12 months.
Responsibilities
  • Assess patients' physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs.
  • Review patient histories, physical examinations, diagnostic and laboratory data, and report abnormal results to physicians and appropriate caregivers.
  • Formulate, initiate, review, and revise individualized plans of care, including discharge plans, in collaboration with patients, families, and the multidisciplinary team.
  • Implement plans of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of healthcare team activities.
  • Provide care according to physician orders, nursing plans of care, organizational policies, standards of care, and regulatory requirements.
  • Delegate appropriately and supervise the provision of patient care by licensed nurses and other personnel.
  • Evaluate patient and family responses to care and teaching, patient progress toward goals, and the effectiveness of teaching.
  • Document assessments, plans, interventions, evaluations, patient responses, and physician orders accurately and timely in the patient record.
  • Provide evidence-based care and participate in clinical research activities when applicable.
  • Participate in unit or facility shared leadership and activities that improve nursing quality indicators and patient outcomes.
  • Educate and orient facility personnel, patients, students, families, and visitors.
  • Support the growth and development of others by serving as a preceptor or mentor when appropriate.
  • Provide timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and safe care and consistently meet organizational service and professional standards.
  • Supervise staff and departmental workflow in some roles.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's degree in nursing is preferred.
  • Professional certification is preferred.
  • Recent acute care experience as a Registered Nurse in the specialty area is preferred.
  • Additional related education or experience is preferred.
