Requirements
- Registered Building Inspector Class 3H.
- Understanding of the Council's Equal Opportunity policy in relation to employment and awareness of its implications for the role.
- Detailed working knowledge of current complex Building Control practice, procedures, and legislation.
- Ability to negotiate with applicants and developers to achieve compliance with statutory requirements.
- At least four years of experience working in a Building Control office, including checking applications and carrying out site inspections with limited supervision.
- BTEC Higher National, ABE, RICS, or equivalent qualification.
- Registration as a Class 3 and Class 4 Registered Building Inspector on the Building Safety Regulator Register.
- Commitment to quality assurance against Building Safety Regulator targets, key performance indicators, and oversight requirements.
- Experience managing multimillion-pound work programmes within the Building Control specialty.
Responsibilities
- Assist with management of the Building Control team.
- Oversee more than 1,500 annual Building Regulation applications, including pre-application meetings, fee management, and application processing.
- Undertake work for the Building Safety Regulator on higher-risk buildings.
- Participate in the out-of-hours Dangerous Structures Rota.
- Ensure high-quality service delivery.
- Manage substantial capital investments of £1 billion annually.
- Contribute to Council-wide initiatives.
- Manage £1 million revenue budgets and multimillion-pound work programmes.
- Lead collection of the Building Safety Levy.
- Act as the Principal Technical Advisor on Building Control matters.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation.
- Manage scrutiny and inspection of complex and high-risk building projects.
- Deputise for the Head of Building Control.
- Provide leadership and mentoring to junior and support staff.
