Requirements
  • A High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • At least one year of coaching experience is required.
  • National Federation of State High School Associations Fundamentals of Coaching Certification is required.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required to relate effectively with students, coaches, staff, physicians, parents, teachers, and administrators.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple assignments and priorities simultaneously are required.
  • Previous coaching experience is required.
  • The ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends frequently, is required.
  • Physical activity may include walking, standing, dancing, running, bending, crouching, reaching, lifting, and carrying.
Responsibilities
  • Coordinate or assist with coordinating the Kamehameha Athletic Sports program.
  • Coach and instruct students and perform duties supporting the development of players and teams.
  • Apply knowledge of tennis rules, regulations, skills, tactics, and techniques to athletes.
  • Translate sports knowledge to athletes, teach individual and team skills, and develop and evaluate athlete and team performance and progress.
  • Identify observable outcomes beyond winning and losing and help athletes reach their full potential.
  • Organize and supervise well-planned, safe, and efficient practices and games while using coaching staff effectively.
  • Prepare the team for games, matches, and meets.
  • Conduct oneself ethically and professionally as a positive role model for athletes.
  • Motivate and inspire players, promote sportsmanship and respect for game rules and officials, and develop team concepts within the organization's values-driven framework.
  • Provide an enjoyable environment and experience for athletes.
  • Resolve disciplinary issues appropriately and effectively.
  • Ensure student-athlete medical and academic eligibility.
  • Complete grade checks, student-athlete records, timesheets, human resources requirements, and other administrative responsibilities on time.
  • Handle equipment and uniform responsibilities, assist equipment and locker room personnel, assist with sport planning and budgeting, and inventory equipment.
  • Communicate with athletes, parents, faculty, administrators, other coaches, and the community as appropriate.
  • Provide appropriate results to the school and media in a timely manner and promote the program in local and state communities.
  • Travel to various locations, including neighboring islands, to conduct business.
Desired Qualifications
  • High school or collegiate athletic participation is preferred.
  • High school or collegiate coaching experience is preferred.
  • Sensitivity to Hawaiian culture and Christian values is preferred.
