What You Will Be Doing:
Helion is hiring an early-career Mechanical Engineer to own hardware designs for Helion’s fusion generator prototypes. This position provides a unique opportunity to solve multidisciplinary engineering problems that are critical to deploying fusion energy to the world. It also provides the unique opportunity to be a culture-driver on a small but rapidly growing team.
You Will:
- Own and understand subsystem designs such as electromagnetic, structural, fluid, thermal, and control systems, and improve their requirements
- Learn from historical engineering approaches, design novel hardware, and test your solutions
- Use CAD software (NX, Solidworks, etc.) to design fusion hardware
- Perform analysis with tools like ANSYS and hold design reviews to gather feedback and iterate to a fully functioning system
- Learn from experts to expand your engineering skillset and domain knowledge
- Work hands-on alongside skilled technicians to build and improve your hardware designs
- Troubleshoot and fix hardware issues as they arise on integrated fusion generators
Required Skills:
- 1-2 years of collegiate internship or project team experience (SAE, Rocket Club, etc) that includes working with multi-disciplinary teams in a fast-paced environment and managing complex engineering projects and schedules
- Ability to apply both engineering first-principles and methodical thinking to challenging problems
- Hands-on exposure to a variety of engineering disciplines (mechanical, electrical, fluids)
- Experience with CAD software (NX, Solidworks, etc.)
- Experience with FEA software (ANSYS, COMSOL, FEMAP, etc.)
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in the engineering of plasma or high-voltage systems
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering
- Baccalaureate GPA 3.25 or above
Per Washington Equal Pay and Opportunity Act the range for this position is $95 - 144k. Actual salary is based on education, experience, and other qualifying skill sets.
