Requirements
  • Design complex machined components and subsystems.
  • Use three-dimensional computer-aided design and develop engineering drawings.
  • Read and interpret mechanical drawings.
  • Apply geometric dimensioning and tolerancing in accordance with ANSI Y14.5.
  • Complete free-body diagrams and use hand calculations to calculate forces and resultant stresses on structures.
  • Package complex electromechanical assemblies.
  • Develop test plans and procedures.
  • Communicate and organize work effectively in environments requiring varied forms of communication and organizational skills.
  • Have a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Science.
  • Have at least 5 years of relevant experience for the Advanced Professional level or at least 14 years for the Senior Professional level.
  • Be a U.S. citizen.
  • Be eligible to obtain a government security clearance and successfully complete required background checks.
  • Participate in the ARL drug testing program and comply with applicable electronic and physical monitoring requirements.
Responsibilities
  • Analyze requirements, identify problems, and develop innovative solution concepts.
  • Design structures, mechanisms, actuation systems, and bearing systems.
  • Work with the design and drafting department to create and approve drawings.
  • Develop assembly and test procedures.
  • Work with technicians to perform assembly and testing of systems and subsystems.
  • Support field testing.
  • For higher-level positions, plan and perform technical tasks of larger scope and lead teams within the project scope.
  • For higher-level positions, manage projects of moderate size and scope and plan, schedule, conduct, or coordinate detailed phases of the work.
  • For higher-level positions, mentor junior engineers in the development of technical and project skills.
  • Design, analyze, build, test, fabricate, assemble, integrate, and transition hardware and software systems for undersea applications.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • Experience with Siemens NX three-dimensional modeling.
  • Experience with structural or thermal finite element analysis.
  • Current eligibility for access to classified information at the Secret level or higher.
