Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Economics, Public Policy, or another discipline with significant exposure to statistics (Master’s preferred)
  • 3+ years of relevant work experience, or Master’s Degree in economics or related discipline and 2+ years of relevant experience. Interested candidates with less than this level of experience are encouraged to apply, but may be considered for a Policy Analyst role.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel. Proficiency analyzing data in R. Experience with REMI, IMPLAN, or RIMS II a plus.
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm for the mission of NYCEDC
  • Proven ability in using database and presentation tools, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Demonstrated oral & written communication skills: ability to effectively convey technical data and results of complex analyses, adapting approach and style across a variety of audiences
  • High attention to detail and quality management; proven quantitative skills; ability and interest to analyze large and varied data sets
  • Demonstrated organizational skills, and ability to work as part of a collaborative team
  • Resourceful and takes initiative to propose and implement process improvements; comfortable interfacing with senior officials and external stakeholders across sectors

Responsibilities
  • Research, prepare data, and draft publications, including short-form and long-form reports
  • Analyze economic data from a wide range of public (Census Bureau, Bureau of Labor Statistics, etc.) and private sources to support NYCEDC projects and priority industries, including industry sizing, demographic analysis, and labor market analysis
  • Respond to data requests from a variety of departments and agencies, agency leadership, and City Hall staff.
  • Contribute to the maintenance and expansion of data sources available to the department
  • Help to advance department best practices for data analysis, including process and documentation, through developing and sharing expertise in both existing and new department resources
  • Identify research topics that drive NYCEDC thought leadership on key issues, sometimes serving as project manager or lead analyst on these projects, and present findings to internal and external stakeholders via presentations and publications
  • Represent the department in interdepartmental working groups with minimal oversight
  • Collaborate on the production of monthly employment analysis and contribute to forming EDC’s economic narrative each month
  • Monitor external research relevant to our work at EDC and share findings with agency leadership
  • Proactively communicate project updates to manager and department leadership
  • Model economic and fiscal impacts related to big events, real estate projects, and tax incentives
  • Other duties as assigned
