  • Bachelor’s AND 8 years of experience in group health underwriting in various aspects of group health insurance, OR 12 years group health underwriting experience in various aspects of group health insurance.
  • 2 years of underwriting of higher complexity cases OR demonstrated capability to meet required job responsibility.
  • Successfully demonstrated skills and experience in underwriting and pricing of various funding options and products and making sound decisions.
  • 5 years of effective management experience, with demonstrated people management skills.
  • Operational knowledge of renewal and prospective group health underwriting processes and procedures.
  • Extensive knowledge of underwriting methodologies including mathematical and financial group health underwriting funding.
  • Extensive experience applying consortium procedure and pricing (if applicable).
  • Extensive experience and knowledge of managed care/health care, group insurance products and group health underwriting financial arrangements and knowledge of state and federal legislation to underwriting practices and making sound decisions.
  • Work management skills in prioritizing and assigning work and project assignments.

  • Represent HCSC as a consultant/subject matter expert for financial meetings with external clients. Formulate strategies and present renewals, proposals, and other financial strategies to designated prospect and current accounts, consultants, and brokers.
  • Take an active role in or a functional lead in corporate or departmental projects.
  • Actively participate and support the principles of the Quality Assurance Program.
  • Manages and monitors customer financial reporting and utilization reporting and for adherence to corporate reporting policy regarding HCSC liabilities.
  • Math and technical underwriting skills, including computer skills and the ability to build complex forecasting models.
  • HMO background with experience in financial arrangements.

Responsibilities
  • Directing the application of Underwriting Policy and Corporate Pricing Strategies.
  • Ensuring compliance with Plan Financial and marketing goals and objectives, and adherence to sound and accepted underwriting practices.
  • Strategic oversight of a dedicated functional group.
  • Directing underwriting teams in compliance with HCSC’s goals and objectives, resulting in the sale and retention of group accounts.
  • Managing and monitoring customer financial reporting and utilization reporting, for adherence to corporate reporting policy regarding HCSC liabilities.
  • Acting as a consultant and providing support for financial meetings with external customers, brokers, and consultants.
  • Formulating strategies and presenting renewals, proposals, and other financial strategies to select prospective and current accounts and their consulting houses.
