Requirements
  • Education equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a job related field of study
  • Three (3) years of professional work related experience, including one (1) year supervisory experience
  • Must be CPR/First Aid certified
  • Possess a Restrain Training Certificate
  • Certified as required by applicable standards for the facility/department assigned
  • Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License, with a good driving record
  • Must pass an extensive background investigation
  • Mandatory drug testing prior to employment and will be subject to random, unannounced drug and/or alcohol testing during employment
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must pass all portions (physical/written) of the Juvenile Academy to continue employment or all standards related to PREA and Ethics for specific positions
Responsibilities
  • Oversees a detention facility for an assigned shift and directs staff in providing comprehensive youth supervision
  • Identifies needs and recommends solutions concerning policies and procedures to ensure the facility is managed in accordance with established protocol
  • Expedites the handling of inter- and intra-departmental inquiries and investigations
  • Schedules staff, assignments and activities, and allocates space and equipment to maximize efficiency of a 24-hour operation in delivering services to youth
  • Compiles and analyzes statistical data to make recommendations, and assists in developing organizational patterns, structures and programs
  • Responds to employee grievances, investigates issues, and makes recommendations based on findings
  • Serves as back-up to staff and assumes all duties as necessary, i.e., administering medications, transporting youths to appointments, processing intake assessments or discharges, and disciplining youths
  • Provides input to the Superintendent regarding budget needs for staffing, equipment and related items
  • Performs other duties as assigned
